To get the Bean Achievement in How to Fish, you need to complete the game in under 60 minutes. While it is possible to do the Bean Challenge with friends, the best way to do it is to go solo. Here’s a quick overview of the roadmap that you should follow:
- Island 1 - Farm Clams, buy the Crab Fishing Rod, buy the Knife (upgrade it once), fight the Spider Crab to get the Key, buy the Radar to go to Island 2.
- Island 2 - Upgrade your inventory, buy the Pistol, buy Dynamites, farm Leeches, defeat the Giant Piranha.
- Island 3 - Get the SMG, add the Extended Mag, max out bullet damage (optional), get endangered fish, summon and kill the pufferfish.
- Island 4 - Get the SMG Compensator, farm money for the Tuna Lure, summon and defeat the Albatross, keep the Albatross meat in your inventory.
- Island 5 - Max out the SMG (damage and bullets), buy the SMG Suppressor, get the Scientific Lure, cook the Albatross meat and keep it for heals, defeat Whale 1 and Whale 2.
To complete the Bean Achievement in How to Fish, you need to finish the game within 60 minutes. It is one of the hardest achievements in the game right now. But luckily, there’s a clear roadmap that you can follow to beat How to Fish in under 1 hour and get the Bean Achievement. So, let’s just get to it.
How to Speedrun the Lighthouse in How to Fish

Lighthouse is the starter island in How to Fish, and how quickly you finish this island will determine your entire speedrun. Here’s everything you need to do to get off the Lighthouse as quickly as possible:
- Farm 60 Clams: Instead of trying to fish different creatures, pick up and feed the clams to the lighthouse keeper. Each clam pays $1. 60 clams will give you $60. Use those to buy the Crab Fishing Rod, the Bear, and the Knife.
- Summon the Spider Crab: Give the beer to the lighthouse keeper to get the Empty Beer Can Lure. Use that lure to summon the Spider Crab Boss.
- Get the Radar & Boat Key: Feed the Spider Crab drops to the lighthouse keeper, and you’ll get enough money to buy the Radar and get the Boat Key.
Defeating the Spider Crab is the toughest part of this speedrun. But if you follow a simple strategy, you can easily defeat the Spider Crab Boss and clear the Lighthouse island within 5 to 6 minutes.
How to Defeat the Spider Crab Boss in How to Fish
The Spider Crab Boss can be defeated with the base Knife, but if you have the money, you can upgrade the Knife once to make things easier and quicker.
Once the Spider Crab Boss shows up, you simply have to wait for it to attack. It only attacks in a straight line and stuns itself after every attack. So, the loop is simple. Wait for the Spider Crab to attack and stun itself, then attack it as soon as the stars appear above its head. Move away when the stars disappear and then repeat the process.
How to Speedrun the Forest in How to Fish

As soon as you reach the Forest (Island 2), go and talk to the lady sitting at the base of a tree to start her quest. You have to find three leeches and give them to her to get a Modified Leech. Leeches can be found on the ground, mostly hidden in the grass.
Once you get the Modified Leech, keep it in your inventory. It is required to summon the Giant Piranha Boss.
Your next goal is to get the Pistol. After killing the Spider Crab and feeding it to the lighthouse keeper, you should have enough to buy a few dynamites. Light them up and throw them into the sea to catch fish. Feed the fish to the man sitting next to the shed to make more money and get the Pistol.
Note: Make sure you grab the Fishing Rod from this island. It costs $3 and is required to catch fish and summon bosses on later islands.
Once you have the pistol, you can summon the Giant Piranha. Read on to learn how to defeat it.
How to Defeat the Giant Piranha Boss in How to Fish
The Giant Piranha is a difficult boss to beat because it flings itself around and deals a lot of damage when it hits you. That’s why you should use the Pistol to fight and defeat it. The Pistol lets you keep your distance from the Giant Piranha, dodge its attacks easily, and deal decent damage with every hit.
The most important thing is to keep moving around and keep your eye on the Giant Piranha.
After you defeat the Giant Piranha, pick up the skeleton and give it to the lady to get coordinates to the Desert (Island 3).
How to Speedrun the Desert in How to Fish

The Desert (Island 3) is where you’ll get the best weapon in How to Fish - the SMG ($650). As soon as you get to the Desert, use dynamite to start farming money. The goal is to get the SMG with the Compensator and upgrade your bullets to the maximum. Skip every other gear upgrade.
Once you have the right gear, it’s time to get the Carrot. The Carrot is a special lure required to summon the Pufferfish Boss. You can get it by giving an endangered fish to the Tourist NPC sitting at the base of one of the palm trees.
Use the Standard Lure to reel in an endangered fish.
With the Carrot in your hand and the SMG fully prepared, it’s time to summon and defeat the Pufferfish Boss.
How to Defeat the Pufferfish Boss in How to Fish
The Pufferfish Boss follows you around, is pretty quick, and deals a lot of damage with every hit. But you can defeat it easily with this strategy:
- Drop the Pufferfish as far away from yourself as possible. This will buy you some time that you should use to create a gap between yourself and the Pufferfish.
- Keep the fight near the palm trees. The palm trees have rocks at their base, and when you circle around them, the pufferfish has a chance to get stuck there for a few seconds, giving you an opening to deal massive damage.
- Once the Pufferfish loses 50% HP, it’ll grow in size and start spewing purple poison. When that happens, you want to expand your movement radius. Instead of going in circles around a single tree, run and hide behind different trees. This allows you to avoid the purple poison but still causes the Pufferfish to get stuck behind a tree and give you an opening.
The Pufferfish Boss has a long escape time, so there’s no need for you to rush this fight. Take your time and get the job done.
When it dies, you just have to pick up the Pufferfish Fin and give it to the Tourist NPC to get the coordinates for the Rocks (Island 4).
Note: If you are under 30 minutes at this point, you are on the right track. If not, it’s probably best to restart your run.
How to Speedrun the Rocks in How to Fish
The Rocks island has a very straightforward completion route: Farm $1,200 > get the Professional Boss Lure > catch and kill the Tuna mini-boss > use the Tuna to lure the Albatross > defeat the Albatross > give the Albatross Head to the NPC with the orange shirt inside the store to get the coordinates for the Volcano (Island 5).
Farming money, defeating the Tuna, and defeating the Albatross are the only tricky things here. So, read on to learn how to do all that easily:
How to Farm Money on Rocks in How to Fish
For Rocks, the best way to farm money is to catch Professional Fish (Bass, Red Snapper, Sengarat, Dripper, Voxelfish) with the Professional Lure ($50) and use dynamite for multi-kills. Here’s a step-by-step guide for you to follow:
- Buy 15x dynamite and drop at least 10x in the red hut across from the grill.
- Go behind the red hut across from the grill and start fishing. Every time you catch a fish, drop it inside the red hut.
- Catch at least 7x professional fish and drop them all in the red hut.
- Light up another dynamite and throw it inside the hut to kill all the fish.
- Pick up all the fish and feed them to the lady in the store to earn money.
A single haul should get you enough money for the Professional Lure. You can catch more than 7 if you really want to be sure.
How to Spawn & Defeat the Tuna in How to Fish
Buy the Professional Boss Lure from the store and use it to spawn the Tuna. And when it comes to killing the Tuna mini-boss, we’ll be following the same strategy that we did for farming money.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Max out your HP. Eat any fish or clams to make sure you have 100% HP.
- Buy 25x dynamite and drop 20x within the gear shop (where you buy the dynamite).
- Come out of the gear shop, light up one dynamite, and switch the item you’re holding just before the dynamite is about to blow up. This will prevent the dynamite you’re holding from blowing up and killing you.
- Now, stand just at the door of the gear shop and catch the Tuna using the Professional Boss Lure.
- When you reel in the Tuna, drop it inside the gear shop (where you dropped the dynamite) and instantly switch to the half-lit dynamite. If you have the time to drop it and run, do it. You can also survive the blast if you have full HP.
How to Defeat the Albatross in How to Fish
There are two ways to defeat the Albatross Boss in How to Fish. You can either use a dynamite pile (risky) or use the SMG (safe, but takes longer). The table below breaks down both strategies:
| Dynamite Strat | SMG Strat |
|---|---|
| - Max out your HP. - Make a pile of dynamite at the centre of the island (at least 30 - 40). - Take another dynamite and light it up, but switch to a different item right before it is about to blow up. - Place the Tuna on top of the dynamite pile and wait for the Albatross to attack. - As soon as it appears, blow up the half-lit dynamite in your inventory to kill the Albatross. | - Max out your HP. - Place the Tuna near the door of the gear shop while you stand inside the gear shop. - When the Albatross comes to pick up the Tuna, use the SMG to attack. - Once the fight begins, you’ll be continuously moving in and out of the gear shop. - Keep chipping away at the Albatross when it goes away, and get inside the gear shop when it tries to attack. |
Note: Make sure you pick up the Albatross Meat and keep it in your inventory. You will need it on the Volcano.
The dynamite path is quick but risky. There’s a high chance that you could miss the Albatross if you don’t time it right. On the other hand, the SMG strategy is safer, but it takes longer to finish the fight, especially if your SMG isn’t maxed out for damage and your aim isn’t the best.
Upon defeat, the Albatross will drop the Albatross Head. Find it, pick it up, and give it to the NPC standing inside the lure shop to get coordinates for the Volcano (Island 5).
How to Speedrun Volcano in How to Fish
The first thing you want to do when you reach the Volcano is to cook the Albatross Meat and feed it to the NPC sitting on the left side of the tent. Each piece gives $1,500. All the money you make from feeding the Albatross Meat to the NPC will go towards upgrading the SMG (max everything out), and make sure to purchase the Red Dot Sight.
If you can’t max it out, catch some more fish, cook them in the lava, and feed them to the NPC to farm money and buy every upgrade. You also want to max out your Inventory slots to fill them with other fish that you can use to heal yourself for the two boss fights.
Before starting the boss fights, make sure you catch some fish, cook them in the lava, and drop them all over the island to use for healing later on.
Read on to learn how to spawn and defeat both the bosses of Volcano Island.
How to Spawn and Defeat the Bowhead Whale in How to Fish
Purchase and give 5 beers to the NPC in the hazmat suit to get the Fish Bucket Lure. Use that lure and the Fishing Rod to catch the Bowhead Whale. Drop it on the volcano base and just start shooting.
The Bowhead Whale’s attack pattern is simple. Every few seconds, it’ll jump into the air and try to crush you. You just need to keep shooting it while it is on the ground. When it jumps up, change your location and start shooting again. Some of the jumps are really high and extremely quick, making them really hard to dodge. That’s where the fish in your inventory and on the ground will help.
When you defeat the Bowhead Whale, add it to your inventory and eat some Footsnails to restore your HP for the second and final boss fight with the Mutated Bowhead Whale.
How to Spawn and Defeat the Mutated Bowhead Whale in How to Fish
After defeating the Bowhead Whale, pick it up, climb up the volcano, and drop the Bowhead Whale inside the volcano to spawn the Mutated Bowhead Whale. As soon as you drop the Bowhead Whale into the volcano, jump back down to the base to avoid the first attack.
As the Mutated Bowhead Whale follows you down, you just have to follow the same strategy as you did for the Bowhead Whale. Keep your distance, avoid getting crushed, and keep your HP up.
There’s no solo cheese method for the Island 4 bosses in How to Fish right now. So, you will have to do it the hard way.
If you follow this guide completely, you should be able to get the How to Fish Bean Achievement. Feel free to share your times. And if you think this path could be further optimised, we’d love to read your ideas. Leave them in the comments section below.
