Can you swim in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – Definitive Edition

I hope you have good insurance ...

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Definitive Edition is a remaster of the original Grand Theft: Auto released almost 20 years ago. In the remaster, Rockstar Games have done an overhaul of the graphics and controls. Players may be wondering what else they have done to separate the remaster from the original.

One thing players may be wondering is if they can swim in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Definitive Edition. The answer is no—Tommy cannot swim in the remastered version. Should players fall in the water, they will see the familiar arm flailing as Tommy drowns and loses all his health.

Water has been a notorious weakness for many video game protagonists, especially in early games. Despite being remastered, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Definitive Edition has not updated the game to allow Tommy to swim. This means if you want to be on the water, you will need a boat and to stay in it as attempting to swim or landing in the water with your car will result in death.

This shouldn't be too much of a surprise as Rockstar Games have attempted to keep the gameplay close to the originals, only applying visual upgrades and modern controls.
