Where to find the Metal Coat in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

It won't keep you warm but it will evolve your Pokémon.

There are many different ways to evolve Pokémon in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Typically evolution occurs by leveling up, but sometimes alternate methods are required. Some Pokémon can only evolve by being traded while holding a specific item. One of these items is the Metal Coat.

  • Magnemite has a chance to be holding the item when encountered in the Grand Underground.
  • After receiving the Riolu egg and the National Pokédex, speak to Byron in Riley's house.
  • Can be purchased in the Battle Tower.

When Scyther or Onix holds a Metal Coat and is traded, they will evolve into Scizor and Steelix. Scyther is exclusive to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, so those playing Pokémon Shining Pearl will have to trade for a Scyther.

Both Scizor and Steelix are excellent steel-type Pokémon and would be valuable to any team. They are also required to complete Pokédex, so completionists will want to get their hands on a Metal Coat or two.
