All races, classes, and backgrounds in The Waylanders

All the classes, races, and backgrounds available in the game.

You would not be off in thinking the Character customization of The Waylanders is incredibly similar to Dragon Age: Origins. The system is even called Origins, and like Dragon Age, players can choose their Body Type, Race, Class, and Background. Be mindful that certain backgrounds are locked based on the Race and Class chosen.

Races in The Waylanders

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

There are four races in The Waylanders:

  • Humans - Known as the most common and diverse race in the game.
    • Their race trait is Mostly Water, which increases resistance to water damage.
  • Werewolf - Not like the werewolves in the movies. These are just half-wolf, half-humans.
    • Their race trait is Thick Pelt, which increases resistance to wind damage.
  • Mourian - An immortal race that can still be killed in battle. This race lives in the Underworld and the Medulas.
    • Their race trait is Carved From Rock, which Increases resistance to earth damage.
  • Semi Formian - Descendants of immortal giants that once ruled Ireland. Their ancestors were banished to the Underworld and, over time, became less fearsome. Now, Formians look like tall humans.
    • Their race trait is Forged in Flame, which increases resistance to fire damage.

Classes in The Waylanders

Each race can choose any class, but the class has a significant effect on the background of many races.

  • Warriors - Attacks are more important than defenses in this class. A short-range melee fighter, they favor dual-wielding over shields, and they use heavy weapons
  • Guardians - As a tank, this class focuses more on defense than offense. They are melee fighters who can use heavy weapons but prefer shields over dual-wielding.
  • Rogue - Rogues use trickery and evasion to deal damage over time. Daggers are their preferred weapon, and they deal critical damage better than the other races in the game.
  • Ranger - This archer class specializes in long-range weapons. In addition to being the second-best at dealing critical damage, this class can also use pets in battle.
  • Sorcerer - Sorcerer are mages who specialize in damage-dealing spells. They are capable of teleportation, destruction magic, and area spells.
  • Healer - Healers are white mages who use their spells to protect others. Their spells heal, add buffs, and protect the party. They are a must-have in any party, and they are the most useful allies in the game.

Backgrounds in The Waylanders

Humans seem to have the most diverse backgrounds, while other races only have one or two. If you wish to fully experience the game, you should explore each of the backgrounds to see how they begin and how other races treat you.

  • Celtic Solider - Only available to Humans with Ranger, Defender, and Rogue, and ranger classes. It is the general fighter background, and players start out as warriors in Celtic society.
  • Dogs of Ares Mercenary - Only available to Humans with Ranger, Defender, Rogue, and Ranger classes. The Dogs of Ares Mercenaries are renowned for their knowledge of Greek spear-and-shield fighting styles, as well as the bow, but are unaware of Celtic culture and society.
  • Celtic Druid - Only available to Humans with Sorcerer and Healer classes. Mages are the general type of spellcaster, and players start out in Celtic society as mages.
  • Egyptian - Only available to Humans with Sorcerer and Healer classes. Egyptians are described as quick, intelligent, curious, and well-versed in Celtic culture.
  • Alpha Wolf - Only available to Werewolves, regardless of class. Alpha Wolves are faster than werewolves from other backgrounds, and they don't care much about Celtic society.
  • Mourian Diplomat - Only available to Female Mourians, regardless of class. Diplomates are well educated in Celtic Society.
  • Mourian protector - Only available to Male Mourians, regardless of class. The Mourians are slower than other backgrounds and have little knowledge of Celtic society.
  • Slave - Only available to Semi Fomorians, regardless of class. The player begins the game as a bodyguard in Brigantia, despite the background of slavery. It's because the player was a slave as a child.
