Fortnite Catastrophic Mission List – Challenges, Rewards, Guide

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Our Fortnite Catastrophic Mission Guide walks you through the list of challenges you'll need to complete to earn the rewards for this mission. Daily challenges are a thing of the past, and these weekly Urgent Missions have replaced them! If you complete at least three of the challenges, you'll gain yourself a loading screen that contains a clue to a secret battle star. Completing all of the challenges nets you a lot of season experience, as well as stars towards your Season 10 Battle Pass.

With these weekly missions, you need to complete them the week they go live because once the time is up they are gone! This mission is set to go live on August 29th, 2019 and will be unavailable on September 5th, 2019.

A new challenge is being unlocked once a day, but we've got a look at the full list of them due to leaks. These are subject to possible change once they go live!

  3. New Loading Screen!
  4. 10x Battle Stars
  5. 1,000 Season XP

Catastrophic Mission Guide

The challenges are fairly easily to complete, and you can always do them in Team Rumble if you feel like they might be difficult. You can also use Party Assist with any of these challenges which should help you complete the difficult ones.

Deal damage with Pickaxes to opponents (100)

You can do this a couple of different ways. If you want to be a meanie-head, then you can just land right on someone else and start hacking away at them with your pickaxe. If you start doing it early, they might not be able to respond quickly enough to defend themselves. This is especially the case if they don't find a weapon immediately. The other way to do it is to go into a squad or duo game and knock someone. You can then pickaxe their downed body.

Eliminations from at least 50 meters away (3)

You can use a Sniper Rifle, Assault Rifle, or even the Combat Shotgun for this (maybe not that last one). This one is super easy if you do it in Team Rumble, it's third party central.

Use trap slot items in different matches (3)

Any item that ends up in your trap slot can be used to complete this challenge. Currently those items are Damage Traps, Launch Pads, and Cozy Campfire. If you get one of these, you might just want to slap it down on the ground before you get eliminated!

Place Top 5 in Duos or Squads Matches (1)

This one could be a bit difficult if you aren't so great at the game. You could consider going solo in a Duo or a Squad and just trying to hide your way to the Top 5. The other option is to have someone way better than you carry you to a high finish. The key to finishing highly is just playing it safe, so land somewhere far off the bus path and try to stay out of battles.

Deal damage to opponents from above (500)

Hold the high ground and damage your foes! Very easy one to do in Team Rumble, you can land on the high ground and just fire away at people.

Visit Lonely Lodge and Lazy Lagoon in the same match (2)

This isn't really that difficult, but the way I would do it is to land at Lonely Lodge and look for the zipline that goes up to the west mountain where the Expedition Outpost is located. There could be a Driftboard spawn here.

Take the Driftboard and truck it to Lazy Lagoon. If there isn't a Driftboard, you can take the ziplines north and then east. Take another zipline north again, and you should come to another Outpost with an additional chance at a Driftboard. If you don't luck out there, well that's unfortunate... You can still follow ziplines north and go west to Lazy Lagoon. If you go west from Sunny Steps, there's a few more Driftboard spawn locations near the Outposts.

Search Chests at Shifty Shafts or Haunted Hills (7)

Haunted Hills is probably the less popular spot, but neither area is a hot drop spot for activity. I would just do this in Team Rumble, the spawn rate on chests is way higher and are pretty much guaranteed. You also don't need to fight for the chests and can sometimes get a location all to yourself.

Hidden Battle Star

Once you've completed three challenges in the week, you'll receive the new loading screen. The name that was leaked for the loading screen might be incorrect, but we'll update this with that information once it is released. You'll find the coordinates for the location of the battle star in the biohazardous slime in the image.

It reads E 7/8 and F 7/8 which can be found on the north western mountain of Fatal Fields.

You'll find the star on a little dirt patch at the northern portion of the map.
