How to fix Twitch Error 500

At least it's not a teapot.

We've all been there. You're streaming on Twitch and having an absolutely lovely time when all of a sudden, your stream crashes. In its place is a message that reads 500 Internal Server Error. Below, we cover what this message means and what can be done to solve the problem so you can get back to streaming.

What is a Twitch Error 500

Error 500, like every error code that begins with a five, indicates that there is something wrong with the server. This means that the error has nothing to do with you and everything to do with something on Twitch's end.

More specifically, Error 500 is a generic server error code. This usually happens when the server can't tell exactly what went wrong, but something is definitely misfiring somewhere along the line that is making it impossible for the server to complete the task.

Unfortunately, because this is a server issue, there is nothing you can do on your end to solve the problem. Some streamers have stated that they solved the error state by switching from a wireless internet connection to a wired connection using an ethernet cable. This is more of a fluke than anything else, as this does not solve the server error.

When solving this error state, your best bet is to try refreshing or quitting and restarting Twitch. If that doesn't work, walk away for a little while and return to your Stream later in the day.
