How to get King’s Rock in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

What a stately rock.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are a thrilling adventure through the Paldea region. It is full of exciting Pokémon to meet and catch, but there are other tasks you can complete. This includes collecting items or completing the Kitakami Pokédex. These come in hand, as you will need the King's Rock to get certain Pokémon. This may leave you wondering where to find the King's Rock in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Where to get King's Rock in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

To get the King's Rock in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, you must first defeat four gym leaders. This will cause the Delibird Presents store in Mesagoza to start carrying this item. Until you have beaten the required four gyms, you will not be able to purchase a King's Rock.

The King's Rock is a held item that will give the moves of the Pokémon, holding it a 10 percent chance of causing the opposing Pokémon to flinch. This will not stack with moves that already have a chance to cause flinching but does become 20 percent if the Pokémon holding it has the Serene Grace ability, such as Dunsparce.

But the King's Rock's primary purpose is to cause certain Pokémon to evolve when traded. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, this includes Slowpoke, who will evolve into Slowking when traded while holding the King's Rock, and Poliwhirl, who evolves into a Politoad. The latter's pre-evolution forms, Poliwag and Poliwhirl, can only be captured in Kitawami, the area that opens up in The Teal Mask DLC.
