Which Wand Core should you choose in Hogwarts Legacy?

It's up to you.

Hogwarts Legacy intends to allow you to truly dive into your own adventure at the titular school. Part of experiencing your own unique story as a witch or wizard is choosing your own wand. Each is unique to the person who wields it, and, as we all know, typically, the wand chooses the Wizard. In this game, you can customize your own wand with hundreds of options, but only once. One choice, in particular, stands out: the core of your wand. Which one should you choose? Read on and find out.

Does the Wand Core make any difference in Hogwarts Legacy?

Mechanically, it does not seem to, no. While by Wizarding World lore, the core of a wand is an essential component that determines its capability, any wand option that you choose in Ollivander's shop in Hogwarts Legacy is purely cosmetic. It will have no effect on how much damage you can do with your attack spells.

Why are there only three Wand Core options?

The Wand Core options available to you in Hogwarts Legacy are grounded in Harry Potter canon. The Ollivander family only used one of three options, items tied to the rarest of magical creatures, for all of the wands they've produced. They are Dragon Heartstrings, Unicorn Hair, and Phoenix Feathers.

Wands with a Dragon Heartstring core tend to be associated with powerful or flamboyant magics. It's also said that these wands tend to help their owners learn magics quicker. Unicorn Hair cores tend to be found in wands that choose Wizards and Witches who can produce magic consistently and are less prone to having a spell go awry. Phoenix Feather Wands are the wild cards. Their owners tend to use wide varieties of magic, and the wands have a greater tendency to act on their own.
