A hot topic that continues to follow the popular Gacha game Genshin Impact is the Resin system. Players who have gone to the end of the game are constantly running out of the resource, and it is necessary for collecting higher end rewards from the current end game content. So, naturally many people have been wondering if miHoYo has any plans on making changes to the system. Well, it wasn't looking too good before, but in a recent Developer's Discussion, they have made it known that there will be some changes on the way in the next update!
In the October 22nd, 2020 Developer's Discussion with miHoYo, a question was asked about Original Resin and the fact that the player runs out of it quite often when attempting to complete daily tasks and weekly Battle Pass Missions. The team behind the game addressed this question with the following response:
Q: I never have enough Original Resin, which makes it difficult to complete various daily tasks and the weekly Battle Pass Missions.
A: In Version 1.1, we have decreased the Original Resin requirement in Battle Pass Weekly Missions from 1,600 to 1,200.
Furthermore, Travelers will be able to store up to a maximum of 160 Original Resin (increased from the current limit of 120).
While this is at least somewhat of a step in the right direction, unfortunately for the team the response has been fairly mixed. Many players are citing the fact that this doesn't really address the outcry, and the actual problem with Original Resin. While the cap increase is nice, it is really the regeneration rate that seems to be the issue. Players will spend all of their Resin, and it will then take at least two hours before a player could do any event involving Resin again. This is obviously a problem because you run out of it so quickly, and players that are looking to put serious time in the game are unable to complete more tasks. However, if you're more of a casual player of the game, then this is more likely a good thing for you, since you probably drained your Resin pool and logged off anyway. So, the change will give you a bit of extra playtime, and not really hurt you overall.
The real main complaint is that if you've gone through all of the story content, you really have nothing to do after you've drained your Resin. You can pretty much use it up in around 15 minutes, and once you have there's really nothing left to do. While you can pay real money to replenish it, that's really not an option for the vast majority of people. It looks like we might be waiting for another patch or hope the additional feedback will change miHoYo's mind.
