Romance always seems to be in the air in SOS: A Wonderful Life! If you’re looking for love with Matthew in particular, the good news is that you can slowly build up a rapport with him until he opens up and finally becomes marriage material. This seemed difficult to me at first, as Matthew is both shy and a little standoffish. But if you follow my guide to all the Matthew Heart events in Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life below, you’ll soon have him wrapped around your finger (along with the ring!).
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life - How to Romance Matthew, all Heart Events
To romance Matthew in SOS: AWL you’re going to need to be patient. As is so often the case, the best way to Matthew’s Heart Events is through his stomach! By giving him the right food and drink gifts, and timing your visits correctly, you will break down the barriers and find that deep down he wants someone to share his time with, and eventually fall in love with. You’ll find all the details on how to do this below.

To build up stars with Matthew, give him the following food and drinks as often as possible.
- Health Potions (Energy, Power, and Hyper Drinks)
- Animal Milk and Apples (any grade)
- Cooked dishes, such as Curry (also Hot and Mushroom Curry)
- High-quality Root Crops (preferably S-Grade)
Matthew romance Heart Events
Once you increase the number of relationship stars Matthew has (through gift-giving) to certain levels, you’ll have the ability to trigger the following events. Note that you have to complete each event (starting with the introduction) before the next one can trigger, no matter if you already have enough hearts for a later one.
Introduction Event
Vesta’s Farm, Spring 2 or later, daytime: Talk to Vesta, who will ask about how your farm is doing. She’ll say that if you need any help, you can rely on her brother Matthew. You’ll then be introduced, after which you can begin giving him gifts to build the relationship.
Two-Heart Event
Vesta’s House, when Matthew is inside: Once you have at least two stars with Matthew, head into the house when he’s at home. After a bit of awkward chat, he’ll ask what you want. He’ll tell you he enjoys going to the Blue Bird Cafe and says he can give you any help you might need growing vegetables. Afterward, reply, You’re so nice, thank you! To receive +10 Affection with him.Â
Four-Heart Event
Outside Vesta’s House in the morning, in sunny weather: Once Matthew has four hearts, ask him what he is thinking about. Tell him you don’t want to make fun of him, after which he’ll tell you about a weird dream he had that is bothering him. Afterward, reply, It’s OK to receive +10 Affection with Matthew.
Six-Heart Event
Vesta’s Farm in the daytime and in sunny weather, during autumn or winter: You’ll see both Cecilia and Matthew. Cecilia doesn’t feel well and leaves, asking you to talk to Matthew. After a short conversation, he’ll ask you to chat with him. Say yes and then, when he tells you he isn’t a very chatty person, reply, It’s Good for another +10 Affection.
Eight-Heart Event
Near the windmills by Vesta’s house in sunny weather, daytime in autumn, or winter: Approach Matthew near the windmills. When he tells you the doctor said his heart will naturally recover, reply, That can’t be right! Next, when he asks you to leave him alone, Shake your head to disagree and you’ll earn +10 Affection once more.Â
Proposal and Marriage
If you want to marry Matthew, you’ll also need to give him your Blue Feather. This triggers another Heart Event, during which he’ll ask you to stay with him. Enjoy your lives together!
