How to make an End Portal in Creative Minecraft

Practice fighting the Ender Dragon in a safe place!

Getting chewed to a pulp by the Ender Dragon in Survival mode made me wish to access the End dimension without all that hassle. This guide will show you how to create an End Portal anywhere in the Overworld.

Building the End Portal in Minecraft

You must first enter the Creative mode to create an End Portal in Minecraft. Once you choose your server or your favorite world seed, follow the steps below:

  • Click the Search Items tab, located at the top far right of your Inventory.
  • Search for the End Portal Frame and equip it to one of the slots.
    • The End Portal Frame is also located in Decoration Blocks, the top-2nd tab in your Inventory.

  • The End Portal is essentially a ring with 3 blocks on each side. You should be able to build the portal by placing all four sides while standing in place and spinning around. To start, place 3 End Portal Frames next to each other, like the picture above.

  • Next, turn and place 3 more end frames in a straight line to construct the second side. Notice that one space is empty between both sides. See the picture above.

  • Turn again and place 3 more end frames in a straight line to construct the third side. Leave an empty space. See the picture above.

  • Finally, turn and place the last 3 end frames to connect the portal fully. See the picture above for the completed frame.

Activating the End Portal in Minecraft

To activate the End Portal in Minecraft, you will need 12 Eyes of Ender.

  • Open your Inventory and search for “Eye of Ender.” Equip this item.
  • Place each Eye of Ender into an End Portal Frame.
    • As you insert the Eyes of Ender, be sure to do so while standing outside the frame. If you stand inside while the End Portal activates, you will immediately teleport to the End.
  • Placing the last Eye of Ender will activate the End Portal.

And that’s all there is to it! Now, you can visit the End without the threat of the Ender Dragon or the evil Endermen. Since you can equip anything from your Inventory, you can try some strategies to help you feel more confident against the Ender Dragon in Survival Mode.
