Best Stats and Subclasses for Astarion in BG3

Astarion as a rogue can be a very helpful addition to the party. If you want to build an Astarion origin character, here are the best stats to go with:

  • Strength: 8
  • Dexterity: 17
  • Constitution: 15
  • Intelligence: 12

  • Charisma: 10

Astarion as a companion or as an origin character has the option to choose a subclass at level three. Your best choices for Astarion's subclass are Assassin or Thief. The former can make for a devastating damage build, while the latter makes for a very useful utility character that is great for navigation while still being formidable in combat.

These abilities can be extremely useful when first starting combat or surprising enemies. Since most are unlocked at level three when you choose the subclass, you will be very powerful early on.

The Thief subclass is a great choice for Astarion for utility and some combat abilities. Thieves specialize in stealth and navigation, making this build for Astarion very helpful. Here are the Thief abilities and what level you unlock them at:

Best Feats for Astarion in BG3

Astarion can dish out a ton of damage as a Rogue, and there are a few feats that mesh with that goal. However, you can always take an ability score improvement when given the option to pick a feat; doing so can be very helpful for Astarion's ability modifiers.

FeatDescription
AlertYou gain a +5 bonus to Initiative and can't be Surprised.
Dual WielderYou can use Two-Weapon Fighting even if your weapons aren't Light, and you gain a +1 bonus to Armour Class while wielding a melee weapon in each hand. You cannot dual-wield Heavy Weapons.
MobileYour movement speed increases, and difficult terrain doesn't slow you down when you Dash.
If you move after making a melee attack, you don't provoke Opportunity Attacks from your target.
Savage AttackerWhen making weapon attacks, you roll your damage dice twice and use the highest result.

Both subclasses can be multiclassed into Fighter to get Action Surge for more attacks. His best stats are Dexterity, Constitution, and Charisma, a stark difference from a character like Lae'zel. While Dexterity and Constitution are significant in battle, Charisma allows Astarion to better persuade and deceive other characters, two skills he has proficiency in. This makes him an extremely versatile character who can help you explore the world of Baldur's Gate 3.
