Chapter 3 Full Walkthrough Guide - Sovereign Syndicate

You’ll start Chapter 3 in a workshop in Red Lantern Way after choosing an Archetype for Teddy Redgrave. The main map stays the same, with the majority of locations available to you through fast travel as in Chapter 2.

Before leaving the workshop, make sure to read the Hunter’s Writ in the Pneumatic Mail Tube and interact with Otto the Automaton. This will start the quests One Man’s Treasure and Terror in the Deep (you’ll also want to complete the first part of One Man’s Treasure, see below).

When To Complete All Chapter 3 Quests

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

The following quests can be started and completed at any time before Chapter 3 ends:

  • Broken Wings
  • Rat Hunter
  • Fine Steak Dinner

The following can be started but not completed during Chapter 3:

  • Stolen Steam
  • Molly’s Mech
  • Otto’s Upgrade
  • One Man’s Treasure

Completing the quest Terror in the Deep by talking to Bixby in the Bathhouse will conclude Chapter 3. However, unlike in the earlier chapters, you are not warned about this

I suggest you wrap up any other quests before choosing the option Tell him you’re here for the contract when talking to Dante. You can enter the Bathhouse and leave again as long as you don’t start that specific thread with Dante. That conversation leads directly to talking to Bixby, which ends the chapter when the conversation ends.

All the main and side quests are listed below. While nothing more is essential, you can spend as much time as you like exploring locations and talking to characters, just as you have in the earlier chapters. Doing so can affect your Temperament and Attributes, as well as land you currency and basic items such as cigarettes, alcohol, and laudanum. Also, if you’ve failed to collect everything in previous chapters (due to failed tests, for example), it is worth trying again with Teddy.

Terror in the Deep Quest Walkthrough - Sovereign Syndicate

This is the main story quest in Chapter 3. It begins when you read the Hunter’s Writ in the Pneumatic Mail Tube in Teddy’s workshop and concludes when you report your success to Bixby in the Bathhouse. Doing so will immediately complete Chapter 3.

Make sure you have completed the second part of One Man’s Treasure (Use the Worktable, see below) before entering the Sewers. This allows you to take a photo of the defeated monster, thanks to the Ambrotype Module he will have equipped.

Question the Swampers

Go to The Sewers, Beggar's Lane, which you get to in the same way you did with Atticus, through the Warehouse. As with Chapter 1, the shortcut back to Beggar’s Lane from the Sewers only opens once you’ve been down there the long way.

Once inside the warehouse, follow the path and talk to the Bilgeman as you walk through (there are no wrong answers). When you get to the entrance to the Sewers, examine the Boiler to begin the quest Stolen Steam (see below). Enter the Sewers.

Investigate the Sewers

Follow the path through the Sewers and then talk to the Pumphouse Captain to get the Pumphouse Key (again, there are no wrong answers here).

Enter the Pumphouse

The Pumphouse is through the solid door in the corner of the room (see image). As long as you’ve got the key from the Pumphouse Captain (above), you can walk straight in.

Set the traps

Walk forward once you enter the Pumphouse and a dialogue box will open automatically. Your choice doesn’t matter here. The perspective will now switch to Otto. You have two traps and three places in which to place them. Again, it doesn’t matter which two locations you set the traps in. Once the traps are set, walk as if you were leaving the Pumphouse. When Otto gets to the right side of the raised circular area, another dialogue will automatically begin.

Wrangle the monster

After the cutscene, Sucker Jones will have been trapped and incapacitated. You now have up to three dialogue options available to you. However, no matter which you choose, you’ll end up having to kill him. This means it is always worth trying the Empathy test as you’ll gain 1 Phlegm either way and still have to kill him. Take a photo of Sucker Jones as evidence.

Claim the bounty

Head to the Bathhouse in Red Lantern Way. As you walk through, take a Bath to get +10 hope (otherwise Dante will ask you to anyway - you’ve been in the Sewers, after all!).

Talk to Dante. Note that choosing Tell him you’re here for the contract will begin a conversation that will end the chapter here and now. Only do this now if you have completed everything else you want to do in Chapter 3.

Otherwise, you can go through the other dialogue options as you wish. You can:

  • Ask about the Arm (advance Molly’s Mech quest)
  • Buy cogs for 3s each (to complete more of One Man’s Treasure)
  • Ask for a Wrench (advance Stolen Steam)

After you talk to Dante about the contract, Bixby arrives at the end of the conversation. You’ll receive 8s and Chapter 3 will come to an end.

One Man’s Treasure Quest Walkthrough - Sovereign Syndicate

You begin this quest while still in the workshop at the start of the chapter. Each part adds a Trait to Otto for 2 cogs. You start the chapter with a variable number of Cogs, depending on whether Atticus sold any to Teddy in the Bathhouse in Chapter 1. However, more cogs can be purchased from Dante in the Bathhouse.

Search for Spare Parts and use the worktable

Search the spare parts (the clock by the mirror in the workshop) to find the Brass Shutter Escapement. Now use the Workbench to fit it to Otto. The different parts do the following:

  • Brass Shutter Escapement: Ambrotype Module trait, for making images in low light. Allows you to take a photo of the monster for Terror in the Deep.
  • Pressure Valve (on the dead Dockhound, Beggar's Lane): High Pressure Regulator trait, for lifting heavier items.
  • Gilded Cube (buy for 9s at the Curiosity Shop, Tenter Street): Lament Configuration trait, which allows Otto to solve the box puzzle.
  • Aetheric Resonator Coil (buy for 2s from Nandi's Shop,  Sorris Square - the shop is only open after dealing with the Terror in the sewers): Aetheric Resonator trait. The use is unclear, but Otto feels more spruced up.

Adding all four parts does not complete the quest. However, we haven’t found any more parts during Chapter 3.

Fine Steak Dinner Quest Walkthrough - Sovereign Syndicate

Talk to the Butcher in Sorris Square and ask for his finest steak to start the quest. You can always come back and buy later if you can’t afford it right now.

You will now have the option to buy either a special cut for either 6p or 2s. You can only buy one and each will lead you to a different reward:

  • 6p steak: Buy a potato from Gulliver (8p) in the stall just to the north, towards the station. Then go buy spices from Nandi (3p) at her store, just a little north of Gulliver. Finally, head back to your workshop and use the Stove to cook the steak and gain +3 Blood.
  • 2s steak (exotic meat): Buy a potato from Gulliver (8p) in the stall just to the north, towards the station. Then go buy spices from Nandi (3p) at her store, just a little north of Gulliver. Nandi will suggest you talk to Rathbone about exotic animals. You’ll find him to the east of Sorris Square, to the right of the Bell Jar Hotel. He'll tell you his Sloth has gone missing. Save the game. Talk to the butcher once more. If you pass an Empathy test (otherwise reload), he'll write Willard an apology note. The Butcher also takes the ingredients from you, paying you 5s and 5p. Give the note to Rathbone and you’ll also get +10 Hope.

Broken Wings Quest Walkthrough - Sovereign Syndicate

Examine the Broken Pigeon that you can find in the broken glass in Sorris Square, near Poe Picket

Take it to your workshop to find you need tiny clockwork parts and Machine Lubricant to fix it. The lubricant is optional but free, so it's better to simply collect it.

  • Clockwork parts: The Curio Shop, Tenter Street (3s)
  • Machine Lubricant: Apothecary, Sorris Square (free)

To fix it back at your workshop, you need to pass an Ingenuity test. It is difficulty 17, or 23 if you don’t have the Lubricant. The process also requires 2 Cogs. If you don’t have enough, you can buy them from Dante in the Bath House for 3s each (only once you’ve defeated the monster in the pumphouse). Fix the bird.

Find Tessica Lincoln

Whether or not the bird is successfully fixed, trying to fix it will get you a Love Poem addressed to Tessica Lincoln. Tessica is the artist by the fountain in Sorris Square (you can't miss her, on the Bell Jar Hotel side). Give her the poem and you’ll receive +10 Hope. The poem was from Calvin Quill, the poet on the other side of the square near Nandi’s store. Tessica goes there, and you can talk to them afterward, but there are no further rewards.

Go back to where you found the bird

Go back and look at the broken window again to complete. You will only get this subquest if you fix the bird.

Rat Hunter Quest Walkthrough - Sovereign Syndicate

Speak to Pavel Gerard at Pavel's Pinfold in Sorris Square. He tells you he'll pay 5s for any good (live) rats you can bring him. There are two rats to find to complete the quest, both in Beggar’s Lane. It’s easiest to do this when you head there for Terror in the Deep.

  • The Warehouse: Examine the Manhole Cover.
  • The Sewer: Examine the Rotten Wood.

In both cases, you’ll use a bit of Laudanum. However, it is not enough to use any in your inventory. Once you have both rats you can return to Pavel to claim 10s.

Stolen Steam Quest Walkthrough - Sovereign Syndicate

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

You can begin this quest if you examine the Boiler in the warehouse, just before you enter the Sewer in Beggar’s Lane. Once you’ve defeated Sucker Jones in the Pumphouse, examine the Secret Distillery in the room that’s on the other side of the decking from where you kill him.

Next, you’ll need to speak to Dante in the Bathhouse (Red Lantern Lane) to get a special wrench with which to sabotage the distillery. Dante says he will give you the wrench at the Arsenal Warehouse at the Wharf. However, this is not a destination that is available in Chapter 3.

Molly’s Mech Quest Walkthrough - Sovereign Syndicate

Screenshot by Pro Game Guides

This quest is started by taking the mechanical arm after defeating Sucker Jones in the Pumphouse. After picking it up, take it to your workshop to examine it. You’ll do tests on it and then take a photo, after which you’ll be prompted to show it to Dante.

You’ll find Dante in the Bathhouse. He’ll suggest you talk to Molly about the mechanical arm. Miss O'Malley is at the Crimson Herring Tavern but it is not accessible during Chapter 3.

Otto’s Upgrade Quest Walkthrough - Sovereign Syndicate

When you talk to Dante about the contract (ending the chapter), he will allow you to start this quest. However, as it begins during the final conversation that ends Chapter 3, there is no way to advance it until a later chapter.
