The Finals patch delivers the nerf bat to aim assist

Git gud!

Aim assist has been the main talking point in the The Finals community since day one. While some players praised it for tipping the scales in the controller players' favor, others claimed that it gave them an unfair advantage over keyboard & mouse users in crossplay matches.

Embark Studios was quick to respond, releasing a 1.4.1 update that irons out key bugs and balances the gameplay, but most importantly—it nerfed aim assist big time! The patch reduces controller magnetism from a whopping 50 percent down to 35, making controller aiming more challenging. I'm curious to see how this will affect the K/D ratio during crossplay games.

Light-build players will be happy to learn that aim assist will no longer move the crosshair toward invisible players, which used to give me nightmares when sneaking around vaults. Zoom snapping will now take 0.3 seconds instead of 0.25 seconds, and you can no longer use zoom snapping on shotguns, the SR-84, the LH1 or the R .357.

The patch also introduces a max cap for zoom-snapping angular velocity to stop you from spinning out and losing the upper hand in combat. Finally, key remapping software will disable aim assist completely, meaning players won't abuse the controller emulating loophole for better aim.

All of these changes were met with a mostly positive reception, and the developers announced a bigger update with more fixes and extra content. Regardless of where you stand in the aim assist debate, it's safe to say Embark Studios have a finger on the pulse of the The Finals community, and that's always worthy of praise!
