New Pokémon app brings Trading Cards to mobile phones

As a collaboration between the Pokémon Company with Creature and Dena, The Pokémon Trading Card Game will finally be translated to a phone app. On this app, it looks like you can collect and trade cards just like you can in real life.

A brief trailer for the game was shown at the February 2024 Pokémon Presents. While the monetization for the game is a little unclear at the moment, players will be able to get two free packs a day. Packs seem to work just like the ones you can buy at retail stores; there is even an action where you cut open the pack by sliding your finger across your phone's screen.

A new feature added with this game is the immersive card. This is a card with artwork of a particular Pokémon, but if you click on it, it will show the surrounding area with other Pokémon hiding in the background. They showed an example of this with a Pikachu card where Pikachu was at the bank of a river with Ponyta and Caterpie behind it.

Along with the card is a simplified version of the Trading Card Game. Players will be able to battle each other online with Pokémon from the packs they have collected. Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is set to release sometime in 2024.
