How to prevent enemies from taking flight when using Soothing Breeze in FF7 Rebirth

They're a pain for sure.

Like all bird enemies, battling the Whymzeletts in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth isn’t easy, and the enemy intel mission you need to complete for it just makes things tough. But tough doesn’t mean impossible, so here’s how to prevent your enemies from taking flight when they use Soothing Breeze.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - How to stop the Whymzeletts from flying after using Soothing Breeze

To stop the Whymzeletts from taking flight when using Soothing Breeze, you need to pressure them while they’re performing the action. Fortunately for you, it’s when they’re using Soothing Breeze that they are most vulnerable to pressure.

Equip two to three of your characters with an Ice materia and hoard your ATB gauges until they use Soothing Breeze.

Once they perform the action (you’ll see the move’s name above their head when you do so), fire either:

  • 2 Blizzards
  • 1 Blizzara

… any should pressure the enemy, canceling Soothing Breeze along with it. Once the Whymzelett is pressured, it’ll be more vulnerable to stagger. You can make quick work of them from this point onward. Repeat the process until they’re defeated.

Best team to use against the Whymzeletts in FF7 Rebirth

The Whymzeletts don’t fly initially, so you can use Cloud, Tifa, and Red XIII to generate ATB for you quickly. You don’t need a complex build, just an Ice materia. If you already have First Strike with you at this point, you can also equip it to Cloud for an instant ATB fill at the start of the battle.

Tifa has a weapon skill called ATB Charge Rate Up that I never remove. It’ll be useful here as well.
