Fallout 76 Flatwoods Monster location and how to defeat it

There are many creatures out there to tackle in the Wastelands in Fallout 76, from mutated animals to aliens. If you’re on the trail of the Flatwoods Monster, read on to find out its location and how to defeat it.

The most likely reason you’ll want to be hunting down the Flatwoods monster is if you’ve picked up the ally quest Exterminate the Flatwoods Monster from the Raider Punk. He is a potential camp ally and can be met at the Crater Core or in random encounters.

If you’re doing this for another reason (as a daily or as part of an event) and haven’t spoken to the Raider Punk yet, I suggest you do so. The Raider Punk gives you the location as part of his quest and you’ll also get a reward from how once completed. This will also take you specifically to a Mythical Flatwoods Monster (location marked on the map below).

If you don't find one at this location, they can be found all across Appalachia and have no fixed spawn locations. That means you’ll have to search the region for them or relaunch on a different server (or private server). They only appear at night with a 2.5% chance of appearing at any creature spawn location. On the plus side, you can’t miss them as they have purple glowing eyes and float above the ground menacingly.

Flatwoods Monster battle tips

There are three major things to remember when battling a Flatwoods Monster.

  • Regeneration: Flatwoods Monsters regenerate health quickly, so you’ll want to get close and deal as much damage as quickly as possible.
  • Teleportation: While you want to get close, I’ve found it better to use guns as Flatwoods Monsters can teleport short distances, making it hard to hit them in melee.
  • Control: Each Flatwoods Monster can control nearby NPCs and creatures of all kinds, so be careful of adds joining in the fight. Any controlled creatures will gain a purple glow.

Also note that the Tales From the West Virginia Hills Magazine #5 holotape will give you a 15 percent damage bonus versus Flatwoods Aliens, including the Flatwoods Monster (the tape can be found in multiple locations, including the Green County Lodge and the Flatwoods Tavern).
