What do all these shiny symbols mean?

At each stage in Hades 2, players will encounter doors with various symbols. These allude to different Boons and other rewards that can be applied to Melinoë, but it can get confusing remembering which is which. Here's our handy guide to all Door Symbols and what they mean in Hades 2.

This guide is currently a work in progress and will be updated frequently, so be sure to check back regularly!

As Melinoë progresses deeper through Erebus and beyond, she'll encounter doors marked with various symbols that indicate what reward she'll receive upon clearing the next stage. These include powerful Boons, buffs to Melinoë's Magick and Health, augments to her weapons and abilities, and more. Some also take her to vendors such as Charon and Arachne, who sell armor buffs, Boons, and other useful items.

Remember that upon death, Melinoë will lose all Boons and buffs gathered during that run. However, all "progression" resources (e.g. - bones, psyche, ashes, etc) will be saved and compiled.

Charon's Shop

This door symbol refers to the vendor named Charon, and it takes you directly to his shop. He provides an assortment of very helpful items for Melinoë's journey, from additional Boons to health restores, all in exchange for Gold Crowns.

Area-Specific Vendors (Golden Hands symbol)

This symbol refers to vendors found in specific areas throughout the game that provide unique rewards free of charge, including:

  • Arachne's Silken Fineries (Erebus)
  • Narcissus Second-Hand Gifts (Oceanus)
  • Echo's Plaintive Echoes (Mourning Fields)
  • Hades Boon (Tartarus)
  • Medea's Nightly Curses (City of Ephyra)

Pom of Power

The Pom of Power symbol alludes to a buff item that empowers one of Melinoë's existing Boons. It will be rewarded upon completion of the next stage.

Daedalus Hammer

The Daedalus Hammer provides an augmentation to greatly strengthen Melinoë's current weapon. It will be rewarded upon completion of the next stage.

Centaur Heart

The Centaur Heart is a unique health boost that provides +25 Max Life points. It will be rewarded upon completion of the next area. Once they are used in battle, they will not regenerate.

Magick Potion

The Magick Potion is another boost item that buffs Melinoë's Magick gauge by +25 points. It will be rewarded upon completion of the next area. Once the extra points are spent on Magick abilities, they will not regenerate.

Gold Crown

The Gold Crown symbol refers to the gold currency that Melinoë can accrue during her travels. They can sometimes be earned passively when defeating enemies, but this guarantees a drop of Gold Crowns (coins) upon completion of the next stage. They can be used to purchase items from Charon's Shop or the Wells of Charon.

Apollo Boon

The Apollo Boon symbol resembles a shining star, and upon completing the subsequent stage Melinoë will be visited by Apollo and offered a choice between three Apollo-type Boon abilities that boast unique magick powers. These will last for the duration of the current run. Upon death, they will be lost.

Hestia Boon

The Hestia Boon symbol resembles a fire ember, and upon completing the subsequent stage Melinoë will be visited by Hestia and offered a choice between three Hestia-type Boon abilities that boast fire-elemental powers. Aphrodite Boon

The Aphrodite Boon symbol resembles a pink heart, and upon completing the subsequent stage Melinoë will be visited by Aphrodite and offered a choice between three Aphrodite-type Boon abilities that boast unique magick powers. Hermes Boon

The Hermes symbol resembles a golden wing, and can first be seen during Melinoë's first encounter with Hermes in Erebus. Upon departing, he'll leave behind a Hermes Boon that can be redeemed for a choice of speed-related abilities.

Demeter Boon

The Demeter Boon symbol resembles a silver arrow, and upon completing the subsequent stage Melinoë will be visited by Demeter and offered a choice between three Demeter-type Boon abilities that boast ranged projectile powers. These will last for the duration of the current run. Upon death, they will be lost.

Hephaestus Boon

The Hephaestus Boon symbol resembles a set of blacksmith tongs, and upon completing the subsequent stage Melinoë will be visited by Hephaestus and offered a choice between three Hephaestus-type Boon abilities. These will last for the duration of the current run. Upon death, they will be lost.

Poseidon Boon

The Poseidon Boon symbol resembles a trident, and upon completing the subsequent stage Melinoë will be visited by Poseidon and offered a choice between three Poseidon-type Boon abilities that boast water-elemental powers. These will last for the duration of the current run. Upon death, they will be lost.

Selene's Gift of the Moon

This particular Boon symbol is unique and refers to Moon-themed Boons bestowed personally by Selene, the Goddess of the Moon herself. It provides Melinoë with an exceptionally strong magick ability that can only be used once, and when she's spent enough of her Magick gauge in battle.

There are a variety of choices that Selene can offer, depending on the occasion. So far, they include:

  • Phase Shift - Your Hex makes everything else move 80% slower for 5 Sec. Ready After: 150 Magick
  • Twilight Curse - Your Hex launches a seeking projectile that inflicts Morph on up to 10 susceptible foes. Ready After: 140 Magick.
  • Lunar Ray - Your Hex fires a beam that deals up to 1200 damage over 3 Sec. Ready After: 120 Magick
  • Dark Side - Your Hex turns you into an Impervious living nightmare with her own abilities for 5 Sec. Ready After: 90 Magick.
  • Total Eclipse - Your Hex blasts the target area for 1000 damage after 4 sec. Ready after: 200 Magick
  • Moon Water - Your Hex restores 25 Hearts up to 3 times, which reset whenever you use Fountains. Ready after: 70 Magick
  • Wolf Howl - Your Hex makes you rise up then crash down in the target area for 200 damage. Ready After: 80 Magick.
  • Night Bloom - Your Hex raises 1 random slain foe from this Encounter to fight for you for 12 sec. Ready after 100 Magick

Zeus Boon

The Zeus Boon symbol resembles a yellow lightning bolt, and upon completing the subsequent stage Melinoë will be visited by Zeus and offered a choice between three Zeus-type Boon abilities that boast lightning-elemental powers. These will last for the duration of the current run. Upon death, they will be lost.

Psyche

The Psyche symbol resembles a green tonic liquid and upon completion of the subsequent stage, Melinoë will receive a set amount of Psyche as a reward, which accrues with her existing inventory of Psyche. This item is not lost in the event of death and is used to increase Melinoë's Grasp gauge.

Bones

The Bones symbol resembles a pile of darkened bones and upon completion of the subsequent stage, Melinoë will receive a set amount of Bones as a reward, which accrues with her existing inventory of Bones. This item is not lost in the event of death and is used to purchase items from the Wretched Broker vendor at Crossroads.

Ashes

The Ashes symbol resembles a pile of ashes and upon completion of the subsequent stage, Melinoë will receive a set amount of Ashes as a reward, which accrues with her existing inventory of Ashes. This item is not lost in the event of death and is used during Meditation to unlock new Arcane Cards for Melinoë fill up her Grasp gauge.

Nectar

The Nectar symbol resembles a bottle of yellow nectar and upon completion of the subsequent stage, Melinoë will receive 1 x Nectar as a reward, which accrues with her existing inventory of Nectars. This item is not lost in the event of death and is used as Gifts for Melinoë's comrades at Crossroads, to fulfill a prophecy for the Three Fates. It can also be given as a Gift to other characters throughout the game.

Cinder

The Cinder symbol resembles a set of wood planks on fire, and it can first be seen at the final stage of Erebus, where Melinoë will need to defeat Headmistress Hecate in battle. 1 x Cinder is rewarded upon completion. This item is not lost in the event of death and can be used to concoct Incantations at the Cauldron in Crossroads.

Pearl

The Pearl symbol resembles a giant white pearl, and it can first be seen at the final stage of Oceanus, where Melinoë will need to defeat Scylla and her band of Sirens. 1 x Pearl is rewarded upon completion and is not lost in the event of death. It can be used primarily for concocting Incantations at the Cauldron in Crossroads.

Tears

Melinoe encounters a Tears symbol door in Hades 2

The Tears symbol is first encountered in the Fields of Mourning, and is obtained by defeating the Guardian of the area (Cerberus). They are primarily used for Incantations at the Cauldron in Crossroads.
