Back to the classics.

Bungie's classic FPS Marathon is now on Steam

Bungie recently announced that their Marathon will be available on Steam freely, starting with the first game. The Destiny developers also credited the Aleph One community with bringing the series to the storefront. The Aleph One community are credited as both the developer and publisher of the game on Steam.

Additionally, the game, now titled Classic Marathon, is said to be powered by the Aleph One engine.

The Aleph One engine is described as the ''open-source continuation'' of Marathon 2's game engine on their website. This is certainly a huge win for both Bungie and the Aleph One community as players will be able to play these classic games from Steam. This is not only great for the Marathon series, but also for the Aleph One developers, who will be exposed to Steam's huge user base.

Plus, with the new Marathon game coming soon, it's the perfect time to go back to the original one that is crucial to the history and development of the creators of the Halo and Destiny franchises.

The next two Marathon games Marathon 2: Durandal and Marathon: Infinity are soon to be released on the storefront with no specific date announced. But, players can download and play those right now from the Aleph One website for free if they don't want to wait for the Steam release. Multiplayer is also possible in the games with up to eight players in a session.
