Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) 2021 once again goes virtual, remains invite-only

Mark off your calendars for July.

This year's Roblox Developers Conference will once again be all-virtual. Despite the virtual gathering, this Roblox conference remains invite-only, so most Robloxians should not expect to attend RDC 2021. This year's event will commence the weekend of July 16 to July 18.

Returning from last year's conference is the Game Jam, which will take place from July 10 to July 11—the weekend before RDC 2021. The Game Jam tasks Roblox developers to showcase their talents with "wildly inventive game ideas." The challenge? Each developer only has 24 hours to conceptualize, design, and publish their game.

Last year's Game Jam broke RDC records with over 60 submissions, culminating in an award ceremony to celebrate each developers' hard work and experimentation. Check out the video below to watch the Game Jam Awards from RDC 2020.

The decision to go all-virtual for the second consecutive year might not come as a surprise. As explained in the Roblox Dev Forum by Missimo93, developer relations, the company's decision falls in line with the current COVID-19 guidelines for gatherings and events. Although the world is slowly returning to normal, it is still too early to predict the state of large gatherings come this summer.

RDC 2021 will remain invite-only, meaning the event is not open to the general public. Specific developer studios are invited to attend, host panels, network, and learn more about the future of Roblox in one exciting weekend.

However, Robloxians shouldn't stress about the lack of an invite. Throughout the weekend, the Roblox company provides plenty of updates, news, and videos to keep players abreast of the festivities. Players were still able to enjoy the RDC 2020 fun, and we expect the same to be said of this year's conference.

Specific details surrounding RDC 2021 have not been revealed. We expect more news as the date nears closer.
