Shovel Knight is one of those notorious franchises with never-ending remasters and remakes like Mario Kart 8 and GTA 5. And while there is a definitive edition coming out, we’re actually getting a brand new Shovel Knight.
Shovel Knight is getting a sequel after 10 years
During a special edition Of Yacht Club Games presents, a live streamed event that celebrates the 10th anniversary of Shovel Knight released for the 3DS/Wii U, the dev said that “a brand new mainline Shovel Knight game” is in the works.
While the announcement came with no title or even a teaser, they did say that we might find clues scattered throughout the previous campaigns. Specifically, they mentioned looking closely at Dig, Pocket Dungeon, and "all the games in the Treasure Trove."
For example, Polar Knight and Shovel Knight’s history could finally be shed some light on. After all, what did this guy mean when he said “I meant what I said. You should still join us.”
Play a definitive edition of Shovel Knight during the wait
As a way to encourage more people to get into the series before the sequel comes out, Yacht Club Games announced the coming of Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX. They call it the “definitive edition of Shovel of Hope.”
“It's our way of preserving the game's historical functionality, ensuring these elements remain available for future generations of players.”
If you haven’t played Shovel Knight before and enjoy pixel sidescroling adventure games, this is the perfect one to get. Aside from enhanced graphics, the game also boasts a couple of new features such as online multiplayer, over 20 playable characters, and toggable “cheats.”
