Helldivers 2 Spear blamed for crashes; hotfix coming this week

The latest Helldivers 2 update 1.000.402 introduced quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes. But you know what they say – when you fix something, you often break something somewhere else. And this time it seems to be the FAF-14 Spear weapon, which crashes the game any time it's used.

As we reported yesterday, the Helldivers subreddit is on fire with complaints about the game's sudden drop in performance ever since patch 1.000.402 dropped on June 18th, 2024. For many players, there seems to be no difference between running the game on max settings and barely hitting 60 FPS and running it on the lowest settings and reaching a whopping...62 FPS?

But now the most vocal complaints are concerning the much-maligned and recently "fixed" FAF-14 Spear weapon. The support weapon, which must be called in via the game's Strategem system, has gone from being severely flawed (hence the calls for a buff) to crashing your game entirely whenever it's brought out and fired.

The Helldivers 2 community has grown so accustomed to game-breaking bugs and unaddressed balance and technical issues that some are even calling for a news feed to be implemented into the game itself. They've grown tired of scouring social media feeds and Discords to have their bug suspicions confirmed by developer Arrowhead Studios (and understandably so). An in-game news feed would enable devs to quickly and directly confirm the existence of a bug and the steps they are taking to address it.

If the Spear is truly crashing games right now can AH finally add this small but crucial feature?

Latest hotfix patch promises to resolve Helldivers 2 Spear issue

The outspoken Helldivers 2 PC community can rest easy knowing their complaints about the FAF-14 Spear crashing the game have been heard. Arrowhead Studios' Community Manager Twinbeard told the community yesterday on Discord that a fix for the support weapon is the main focus of a hotfix patch that has just landed.

With the hotfix patch 01.000.403 now live as of writing, let's see if Arrowhead did in fact fix the Spear. Hopefully, nothing else broke in the process. But if something did, then I'm sure the Helldivers community won't hesitate to let everyone know.
