The Northern Expedition update for Fisch dropped on December 21, 2024, introducing a separate area for adventurers to explore that isn't part of the regular ocean we know. This icy expanse brings new challenges, valuable items, and difficult terrain for those daring enough to brave it.

Fisch Northern Summit Location (How to Find the Northern Expedition)
To get to the new island, you need to find the marker in your game that says "Northern Expedition" and sail towards it. You can find in between Terrapin Island and the Forsaken Shores, at coordinates (-1730, 138, 3824). Sail south-southwest from Moosewood and you'll find the portal. After entering the portal, you'll be transported to a new ocean with just two markers - Northern Expedition and Exit of the Expedition. Sail towards the Northern Expedition marker and you'll quickly find the "Northern Summit", which is the island for this update.
Exploring the Northern Summit in Fisch (How to Climb the Mountain)
After reaching the island, you’ll notice there’s no pier to dock your boat. You’ll likely abandon your boat in the ice before making your way inland. Your first priority should be purchasing a Basic Oxygen Tank for 1,000C$, which is next to the NPC to the right of the Merchant. This will allow you to survive the higher elevations of the mountain, where oxygen levels begin to drop.
Here is a guide that will take you up the Northern Summit and into the other areas of the mountain:
Step 1: Crossing the Northern Summit
Take the path to the left that leads across ladders and ice. Follow the path up the mountain, keeping an eye out for ladders, which act as markers for the trail.
When you see the second camp (the first one being the one where you purchased your Basic Oxygen Tank), take the slight left to find more ladders to climb, and then turn right to a ramp that cuts up the front of the mountain.
Walk up the ramp to find more ladders to climb, and then continue across the platform. There's a weird drop in the path here that's easy to fall from if you jump. Use your Glider to get across it so you don't fall - it doesn't look like you should, but I managed to drop back down the mountain and it's tedious to get back up.
Around the corner of the mountain path, there's an actual gap that you'll need your Glider to cross. I advise turning your camera to look at the jump straight on so you can time it correctly. After the gap, there are a couple more ladders, and then you'll be alerted that you've entered the Overgrowth Caves.
Step 2: The Overgrowth Caves
There's a camp on the left side of the mountain here that has a Pickaxe for 5,000C$, a Beginners Oxygen Tank for 3,000C$, and a free Oxygen Refil. You also can't waste time in any area from here on out. You now have an Oxygen meter and a temperature meter. If either gets to zero, you'll die and respawn.
Head to the left of this camp and break the entrance to the cave with your new Pickaxe. The light from your lantern somehow melts the ice on a lever, which you can then interact with. This is one of six levers in the Northern Summit that you'll need to activate.
Head back to the campsite, refill your oxygen tank, and stand by the fire. This is a much faster way to refill your meters than constantly leaving the area (which you can do by dropping back down below the ladders that lead up to the Overgrowth Caves).
Go back to the entrance to the area, and take the path on the right using the ladder. Equip the Beginner's Oxygen Tank, you can't make this journey without it. Climb the rocks toward the cliff and use your Glider to cross the huge gap. Follow the path and the roped fences until you reach the next camp - the path will take you past the Crystalized Rod, over two bridges, and up several cliffs. It's a long climb, and will take several minutes.
The most dangerous part of this path is near the end, next to the camp you're aiming to get to. Even with the Beginner's Oxygen Tank equipped, you'll almost be dead by the time you reach this camp and one wrong move will waste you. After going up ladders for a while, you'll suddenly need to go down a couple of ladders before going up again. You'll reach a triangular rock at the end of the path, with no ladder to go further up. From the rock, use your Glider to hop across to the next one, and then continue on to the camp (walk past the orange tent and look for a set of ladders on the right).
Here, you'll find an Intermediate Oxygen Tank, as well as the 300,000C$ Summit Rod. Go up the ladders to the right to find an NPC selling the Winter Cloak for 7,500C$. This stops your temperature meter from dropping.
Head back down and exit the area (go back on yourself to the ladders on the cliffs that got you to the campsite). There's a snowy ramp that you can go up to continue up the mountain.
Step 3: The Cryogenic Canal
The path will lead you to the Cryogenic Canal, which is the third area in the Northern Summit. Keep following the path around and up the mountain, climbing every set of ladders you come across. You won't need your Glider for anything on the path to the Cryogenic Canal.
This area is pretty short. If you keep following the path, you'll reach another ramp that veers off to the left and the game will tell you that you've reached the Glacial Grotto.
Step 4: The Glacial Grotto
The Glacial Grotto is the aim of any player climbing the Northern Summit. In the campsite by the entrance to the area, you can buy the Advanced Oxygen Tank for 25,000C$ and an Advanced Glider for 2,500C$. Beyond the campsite, you'll see four giant crystals - this is the altar for the Heaven's Rod, which can be unlocked by collecting all four Energy Crystals across the island and pressing the various buttons around Fisch (see the section near the bottom of this guide for more information).
That's it for exploring the Northern Summit. I'd advise that you "check-in" with the NPCs next to the small tents that have a sleeping bag in each area. They charge is 35C$ to change your respawn point to their tent.

Crystalized Rod - Location, Cost & Stats
The Crystalized Rod requires teamwork to unlock. You’ll need a friend/another player and a Glass Diamond each. Glass Diamonds can be readily fished from the pond at the first area of the Northern Summit - at coordinates (20296, 272, 5463) - before starting the climb. I used a Mythical Rod and caught three in a few minutes.
Follow the path up the Northern Summit from the bottom, go right once you hit the Overgrowth Caves, and use your Glider to cross the giant gap in the path. Once you're over the gap, follow the path straight (you should see blue crystals sticking up in the distance). Keep walking until you reach that area, and drop down into it. You'll see a large, blue, icy crystal in the center of the area. This is the crystal encasing the Crystalized Rod.
When you find the large crystal encasing the Crystalized Rod, you and another player need to step onto the pressure plates on either side of the crystal while holding a Glass Diamond. The light reflecting through both crystals melts the ice, revealing the Rod.

Where to Get All Crystals in the Northern Summit in Fisch
At the very top of the Northern Summit is an altar - at coordinates (19977, 917, 5375). Here, you’ll need to place four Energy Crystals to unlock the Heaven's Rod. Getting all four is a bit of a challenge, though.
Crystal | Location/How to Get |
---|---|
Blue Energy Crystal | Found in the first cave near the second campsite. Use your pickaxe to free it from the ice. Coordinates (20126, 211, 5449). |
Green Energy Crystal | From the entrance point of the Overgrowth Caves (where you can go left to the camp with the Pickaxe or right to continue heading up the mountain), go straight down the middle. You'll find an NPC on the left side of the ice cave, standing on a ledge. Talk to them. Coordinates (19873, 448, 5557). |
Yellow Energy Crystal | Found during an Avalanche. Go to coordinates (19503, 335, 5535) and use an Avalanche Totem to cause one instead of waiting. |
Red Energy Crystal | Go to these locations and interact with the buttons you find there: Behind the top C$ leaderboard on Moosewood, next to the Stone Rod on the Ancient Isle, on the Forsaken Shores watch tower, on the right of the log at Roslit Bay (1717, 148, 732), and behind the lamppost in Upper Snowcap on Snowcap Island. Then, talk to the Hiker standing by the altar at the top of the Northern Summit. He'll charge you 250,000C$ for the Red Energy Crystal. |
