How to attack move in Age of Empires IV

Go on the offense.

The Age of Empires IV tutorial seems to skim over that you can assign your units to attack while moving. This method, called attack move in the game, makes it so that they automatically attack any opponent units they see on their way to the location you ordered them to go.

To assign an attack move is simple. When you have the units you want to assign selected, press the A button on your keyboard to switch to attack move. Then, follow the normal method to assign them to a location by left-clicking on your screen or on the mini-map.

A few additional tips to help make an attack move even more efficient:

  • When combined with the Control Group hotkeys, attack move allows you to quickly select specific units and reposition them to different spots during a battle. Moving your archers to a more advantageous position while your enemy focuses on something else can quickly change the outcome of a battle!
  • Attack moves can be assigned on or offscreen. If you select a group of units that are not visible on the screen, you can still use the method above to quickly assign them to attack their way to a position you have visible.
