Age of Empires IV is a real-time strategy game that consistently requires you to select units, buildings, and tasks at a moment's notice. Doing these things quickly can give you the edge in a match and make it, so your resources accumulate faster than your opponents.
One of the best hotkeys to use is the Control Group hotkey, which is named because of the key it uses to assign them. This method of unit selection allows you to select units set to the number keys on your keyboard. To do this, first select all the units you'd like to assign to the control group.
To assign the group to a number key, press Ctrl + (Number). Now, whenever you press that number, it will select the units you assigned to it. When combined with other unit selection hotkeys, control groups make for near-instantaneous unit selection during battle, allowing you to issue commands to all units of one type easily or even to your entire army.
A few additional tips for this hotkey:
- Units can be assigned to multiple Control Groups. For example, a single spearman can be part of the control group assigned to your keyboard's 1 and 2 keys.
- You can assign specific buildings to control groups using the same method shown above.
