How to solve the crank puzzles

Things are pretty simple down in this cistern if you ignore the fact that a monster is trying to kill you. Simple enough, until you get to the last crank puzzle down in the depths of the cistern, and this one is a doozy. This puzzle appears after an encounter with the monster in the dark hallway; however, once they've been evaded, you're close to the exit! One last puzzle remaining.

In front of you will be three cranks you can turn. Each crank does something different.

  • The left crank opens up the sluice gates.
  • The middle crank controls the crane by moving it left or right.
  • The right crank raises and lowers the crane.

Now, if you turn the left crank, you'll notice that only the right one sluice gate opens; the left one seems to be malfunctioning or stuck. We have to fix that. So turn the middle crank until the crane is positioned before the right sluice gate. Then go platform over to the right sluice gate and enter it. You'll be in a dry water channel, take the first left, and you'll see what's caused the left sluice gate to become stuck. Pull off the hook, and the left gate will open. Now go back to where the cranks are.

You should notice a hole above the right sluice gate, but this is a bit later on.

  • Close the sluice gates by using the left crank.
  • Move the crane to the right, using the middle crank, so it's level with the right sluice gate.
  • Then use the right crank to raise the crane platform as high as it can go.
  • Let go of the crank, then quickly open up the sluice gates again using the left crank.

If done correctly, the crane platform will land on top of the sluice gate platform, making it become stuck, so you can jump on top of it from inside the dry water channel and finding the exit above the right sluice gate. When on top of the crane platform, jump to the platform on your left, and continue through the cistern!
