How to Get Bamboo & Get to Bamboo Island

Let's first take a look at how you can and grow bamboo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! First, you're going to need to take a flight via Dodo Airlines. If you haven't done this before, your first flight will be free! If you have done this before, you will need to purchase a Nook Miles Ticket at the Nook Stop in Resident Services. Now, you'll need to get lucky! When you take a flight to a mystery island, it is a random destination that you will end up at. You will sometimes end up at an island that spawns tarantulas or butterflies. Some islands have rocks that only drop money, and you might even find a trash island that will allow you to fish up garbage from the water! We're looking for an island that spawns bamboo. This could take you multiple flights, but hopefully you'll get lucky!

Once you've reached the location, you'll notice quite a few X marks on the ground near the bamboo. These are normally how you dig up fossils, but on this island they will give you a bamboo shoot. This is one of the ways you can grow bamboo on your island. You can also eat a piece of fruit and dig up the whole bamboo plant itself!

Another way to get bamboo is by purchasing turnips from Daisy Mae. She arrives at your island every Sunday, so purchase a couple and she will eventually send you mail with some picked bamboo shoots!

Bamboo Wand

The Bamboo Wand does exactly what all of the other wands do in the game! You can use it like any other tool, and when you do you will be given the option to select an outfit and change your clothes on the fly. The hardest part about crafting one of these is finding the Star Fragments. These can only be found after you talk to Celeste at night. She should come to your island fairly early on in your gameplay but it is random. Once you find her, she will alert you to the fact that you can look at the sky and make a wish on a shooting star! This can only be done on clear nights, so when you notice the night is clear, be sure to look to the sky by adjusting your view by using the right joystick! When you see a star, hit the A-button to make a wish. You can make wishes on multiple stars to get more fragments.

Wait until the next day and then run around your beach area. You should see a bunch of Star Fragments in the sand that you can pick up.

Now that you have a wand, you can go to a wardrobe and use the "Edit wand outfits" option. You can create up to 8 different outfits in this area, which you will be able to immediately change to by using the wand!

Bamboo Recipes

There's three types of bamboo that you can craft with: Young Spring Bamboo, Bamboo Piece, and Bamboo Shoots. Both Young Spring and Bamboo Pieces can be obtained by hitting a full grown bamboo plant with an axe. You can obtain the shoots by digging at the X mark near the bamboo plant!
