How to Catch a Scorpion

First, we'll take a look at the Scorpion's Critterpedia information because it's vital to know when you can actually catch this thing. It only shows up in certain times of the year, so don't go bug catching for it unless you fall into the precise months it is available.

  • Northern Hemisphere: May - October
  • Southern Hemisphere: November - April
  • Active Hours: 7pm - 4am
  • Price: 8,000 Bells

You can only find these at night, so make sure to stake out your island during these times. These spawned a lot more frequently for me then Tarantulas, but they share a lot of similarities. I found them quite often near the Resident Services area, but your mileage may vary. I would make sure to clear out as many weeds on your island as possible so you can see them more easily.

Catching Technique

If you've caught Tarantulas, then these are very much the same. If not, you need to sneak towards them because if you run at them they will sting you! That will cause you to faint and you will end up back at your house or near the plane if you're on a mystery island. The best way to sneak is to hold down the A-button while you have your net out. This will put you in a ready mode that has you move slowly. When the Scorpion rears back into attack position you need to STOP moving. Wait until it returns back to its normal posture and then move forward again. Continue this little dance until you are close enough to drop the net on them. All you need to do now is let go of the A-button and you will automatically swing the net!

Scorpions will chase after you if you get too close to them. You can either sprint away and enter into a house or building, or you can try and take your net out and take a swing at them in hopes that you nab them. It's not a reliable method, but it will work for you sometimes. They aren't always easy to spot because they can be behind buildings and trees where you might not have noticed them.

Scorpion Island

While the Tarantula Island is far more known, there's also an island that spawns nothing but Scorpions! You can sometimes encounter it by taking a mystery island flight after 7pm during Scorpion season. The one I encountered had a bunch of weeds and flowers on it and there was at least four Scorpion spawns. These will spawn infinitely and you can catch them until you fill up your pack. If you get stung, you will just respawn near the plane, so don't worry about it too much. This is a great way to make some money, so consider looking for this island if you are in need of bells!
