Numerous Apex Legends players are reporting major server issues, as well as instances of the game freezing or crashing, after the free-to-play shooter's latest Double Take Collection event dropped on June 25, 2024.
The Double Take Collection event brings with it a new Quads mode instead of Duos, a new Prestige skin for Lifeline, and a 1.5x boost to all Prestige Skin Challenges. But it has also brought along crippling server issues for many players, with Apex fans sounding off on the game's active subreddit about not being able to get into any game whatsoever.
Players are claiming that these server issues began right after updating the game for the Double Take Collection event. And though an additional 9MB update went out shortly after the main patch, this update has also seemingly not fixed anything for players. Some players, however, found luck in bypassing Steam entirely and locating and running the r5apex.exe file on their machines – though this would naturally only help PC players.
It's not just server issues plaguing the latest Apex Legends update. A slew of players are also complaining about the game freezing or straight-up crashing while on the lobby menu. This too only started happening to them after patching the game for the Double Take Collection event.
As of writing, there has still been no official word from Apex Legends developers Respawn Entertainment on their official X (formerly known as Twitter) account as to what is going on. The game's servers also all seem to be up and running according to Apex Legends Status, though that can change drastically and doesn't necessarily mean all players are out of the woods yet. Let's hope for some official confirmation soon from Respawn that both the server and crashing issues have been resolved.
