Bangalore and her brother Jackson take center stage in ‘Gridiron’ Apex Legends short

Apex Legends has never skimped out for lore videos, and the first animated short of 2022 is no exception. In "Gridiron," the "Stories from the Outlands" saga continued with Anita Williams, aka Bangalore, telling her friend Renee Blasey, aka Wraith, about her and her brother. It comes about when Renee asks if that crashed Hestia 01 ship on the Storm Point map is hers. Anita admits she was assigned to it but tells Renee there was also another ship: the Hestia 02.

Gridiron was a brutal battle in the war that Anita and Jackson were both fighting in for the IMC military, but as if by miracle, both of them survived after medical attention. They had found refuge on a planet in the outlands while Anita was still knocked out.

When she woke, Jackson made it clear he didn’t want to go back to the IMC, but Anita did. This disagreement led to Anita revealing their position and her brother being marked as a traitor. She had to fight against a commander to save her brother from a deadly punishment, but the IMC also bombed the town where they’d been staying.

Anita Williams has always been authoritarian in nature, but in this short we see how this aspect of her hurt her brother and innocent bystanders as well. This short makes it clear that Anita is at war with herself more than anywhere else. If you listen to Bangalore’s in-game voice lines from Season 1, and then listen to her now, there is a difference. Anita has definitely been learning to come into her own outside of who she was to the IMC military, but it’s a work in progress.
