Valkyrie and Loba talk trauma and dinner plans in new Apex Legends animation

While Apex Legends is first and foremost a first-person shooter battle royale game, one thing that sets it apart from most other games in the genre is its lore. The stories within Apex Legends are captivating, interesting, and actually make you care about the characters.

Two characters with complicated pasts and just as complicated a dynamic are Loba Andrade and Kairi “Valkyrie” Imahara. A new animated short released on the official Apex Legends twitter captioned “Ready for takeoff.” shows an interesting conversation between these two Legends.

Loba hangs out in a cool, casual outfit and shoots some shots in the firing range when Valkyrie joins her. They discuss that Loba has someone on her mind. Valkyrie assumes that Loba means Bangalore, another Legend, and a potential love interest for Loba, but Loba reveals she is thinking about her mortal enemy, Revenant.

Valkyrie tells Loba she thinks about Revenant too much, and they discuss their pasts: about how Revenant killed Loba’s parents, and a commander named Blisk is partly to blame for Valkyrie’s dad’s death. They both lived through traumas and found some bits hard to talk about, so trying to open up to each other is good but not always easy.

There is also a fair amount of flirting going on, mostly on Valkyrie's end, but at the end of the video, Loba mentions she is hungry, kind of flirting in her own subtle way. Valkyrie asks her to dinner, and they decide to go together but have a firing range shoot-off first to see who's paying. Loba is a canonical bisexual, and Valkyrie is a canonical lesbian. These two have been flirting back and forth for a while, but Loba seems preoccupied lately. Loba could be thinking about Revenant, Bangalore, or even just herself.

Valkyrie makes it clear in the video that Loba’s grudge against Revenant is going to keep making her suffer, but for Loba, things aren’t that black and white or easy to let go of.
