Oil is one of the most valuable resources in ARK Survival Ascended because of how efficient it is as a source of fuel. There are a few different ways to get your hands on Oil in Ark Survival Ascended, which I'll explore in this guide.
Where to get Oil in ARK Survival Ascended
If you're tired of using Wood as your primary source of fuel, then finding Oil is an essential step to true base efficiency. One method is to head to the northern region of The Island where you'll find the Arctic Biome. Although you can find rocks with Oil scattered all around The Island, they are most common in the north. I don't recommend exploring the Arctic Biome until you've built up to having Fur Armor to stave off the cold. Make sure to also be well armed, as the Arctic Biome is easily one of the most dangerous areas in ASA.
If you don't fancy a daring adventure in the land of ice and frost, then you can also find Oil by taking a deep dive into the Ocean. There, you can mine Oil from the same type of rocks you can find in the Artic Biome. You'll also come across Metal, which is a nice bonus.

How to farm Oil in ARK Survival Ascended
The deeper you go in the Ocean, the more common Oil is. However, you're going to need Scuba gear if you want to do any sort of efficient farming this way.
The least efficient way to farm Oil is actually to kill the Trilobites that appear near the shoreline. Trilobites are tiny, oily creatures that slither along the coastal sand and are found everywhere in the Ocean.
Trilobites are practically harmless, but that is precisely why they are a great source of Oil (especially early game). This is the route I recommend if you only need a small amount. Eventually, you're going to want to find Oil via the other means mentioned, as consistency is important, and Trilobite Oil yield can be questionable for larger projects.
