Gale is a Human Wizard that can be recruited or played as an origin character in Baldur's Gate 3. Extremely helpful to the party in pretty much any situation, he can be effective as any of the Wizard subclasses, and the massive spell list he gets access to makes him very versatile.

At level two, you will choose a subclass for Gale and unlock new abilities and spells. Many of the wizard subclasses can be effective, but the Evocation Wizard subclass is one of the best choices due to the Sculpt Spells ability. With the Sculpt Spell ability, Gale can hit enemies with AOE spells and not do any damage to allies, which can be very useful when front-liners are stuck with a bunch of enemies around.

At early levels, the Find Familiar spell can be very helpful due to the Raven summon being able to blind enemies with an attack every turn. Later on, you can replace the spell with one with more ulitity, but many of his 1st level spells can be very good with level scaling. With the Evocation subclass, your most powerful spell will be Fireball most of the time, especially when you can throw it near your allies.

Gale can benefit from a number of feats, but remember, you can also choose ability score improvements over feats when you have the option. Choosing to increase your Intelligence is always a good option for Gale.

Gale is a great choice for your party, especially if you have more than one melee character in tow. He can launch powerful spells from far away and defensive spells like Mage Armor, Misty Step, and Mirror Image keep him safe in the back lines.
