BG3 – How to save the Tieflings & Wulbren in Baldur’s Gate 3

Who let the Tieflings out?

Saving the Tieflings and Wulbren will be your first quest when you start Act II of Baldur's Gate 3. A bunch of Tieflings from the Emerald Grove were kidnapped by cultists of the Absolute and taken to Moonrise Towers, along with the gnome Wulbren. During my playthrough, I failed this quest several times, causing all Tieflings to be killed. If you're having trouble rescuing Tieflings and Wulbren, this guide will help you out!

The captured Tieflings and Wulbren in BG3 are being held in the Moonrise Towers Prison, which you can find by going south of the Underdark and to the southwest of the Last Light Inn. The Towers will be surrounded by the Moonlight lanterns warding off the Shadow Curse. Once you find an entrance, head over toward the east and proceed to the lower part of the Tower. At a certain point, you will encounter a guard, but you can use a Skill Check to assure him you're not trespassing.

How to break out Tieflings and Wulbren from the Moonrise Tower Prison cells in BG3

Once you're in the Moonrise Tower Prison cells in BG3, the most efficient way to break out Tieflings and Wulbren is to have them stay in their dungeons while you fight the guards. If you decide to break them out they'll try to help you, but some might get killed during combat, so the safest thing you can do is keep them inside.

How to obtain Wulbren’s Hammer from the Moonrise Tower Prison in BG3

At a certain point, Wulbren will ask you to get his Hammer located on the table at the Warden's office in the Moonrise Tower Prison in BG3. You can fight your way in, or have your stealthiest character sneak in and snatch Wulbren's Hammer while nobody is looking. If you must fight the Warden, make sure you engage her while she's isolated from her backup, and you won't have too much trouble with her.

Alternatively, you can give Wulbren any item that does Bludgeoning damage, including quarterstaffs or clubs. This is usually safer than trying to steal his hammer, as you risk being confronted by the Warden or her guards if you get caught stealing. Note, however, that you won't get the item back from Wulbren after he escapes.

You can initiate the escape with Tieflings and Wulbren from the Moonrise Towers Prison cells in BG3 by informing Wulbren that you're ready to go with his breakout plan. He will use the item you gave him to break the cell wall, allowing everybody to escape to a boat in a cave behind their cells. To make your escape quicker, you can help them break the chains holding the boat secure.
