Is the Bard Class Good in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)?

Musicians with the power to save the Realms...

There are many different classes to pick up and play in Baldur's Gate 3; whether you want to be a demonic spellslinger or an oathbound sword and board user, there is a class tailored for every type of player. However, BG3's character creation process can be a little vague about what each class really does, especially when it comes to the more exotic classes like the pillar of entertainment that is the Bard.

Due to the way Bard is detailed, you may find yourself questioning their supportive value when classes like Cleric exist. If this is you, you've come to the right place for answers. Is the Bard class worth your time? Keep reading and find out.

How Do You Play a Bard in BG3?

Bards are an amazing class in BG3, primarily due to their versatility. While they are primarily supportive spellcasters that grant buffs through the power of music, they truly excel at being a jack-of-all-trades. Many Bard spells can be found in the spell list of pretty much every other spellcaster in the game; the iconic Fireball spell for example is accessible to them, despite being a support character.

Bards function as a solid backbone to an already functional party. Their buffs are game changers in most cases, improving Attack Bonuses and Saving Throws through their wide variety of spells, and their jack-of-all-trades nature extends to martial affairs, as they are able to wield some weapons to solid effect. The Bard even has access to a subclass with a stronger focus on martial prowess called the Sword Bard, rounding out its capabilities.

If you're looking to play a Bard in BG3, rest assured they will be the reason your party wins some of the game's harder encounters. Bards are just never a waste to have in a group, so go wild building one up. Just remember support is your main role and you'll do just fine.
