Battlefield 2042 has removed Zombie Survival Mode after just 24-hours of release

An exploit was quickly discovered, and the developers needed to react.

On Jan. 20, DICE and EA released Zombie Survival Mode for Battlefield 2042. The game mode has now been removed after only a day of it going live. It turns out players discovered an exploit to turn the mode into another bot farming server, causing a lot of criticism from fans and critics.

DICE didn't catch the exploit before release and didn't limit the amount of XP that players can gain in the mode. Ripple Effect Studios takes the brunt of the criticism, as the company is in charge of the modes in the Battlefield Portal portion of 2042. Ripple Effect Senior Design Director Justin Wiebe has responded to the controversy, agreeing with frustrated fans that “this shouldn’t have gotten through our review process.” Wiebe claims that the team's desire to release a fun zombie mode "clouded" the company's ability to realize how the mode could affect progression.

Since the game launched, battlefield 2042 has been suffering from backlash, with several criticisms aimed at the game's allegedly incomplete state. There have been rumors that EA is planning to make the game free-to-play to salvage the title.
