Battlefield has always been a franchise based on and promotes team play. Spotting and marking enemies for the squad is a crucial part of the squad-based warfare aspect of the game. The following list mentions five different ways you can spot in Battlefield 2042.

- Using the Ping or CommoRose system is the most basic mechanics used to spot in the game. Pressing the ping input once marks a location while double-pressing it puts the enemy location marker.
- Enemy players within your vicinity will pop up as red dots on the minimap if they use an unsuppressed weapon. Players can counter this by using a suppressor barrel on the gun if it's available. But keep in mind that suppressors reduce the effective range of the weapon.
- The Prox Sensor emits continuous pulses that highlight nearby enemies on the minimap. It unlocks after you reach level 22 and can be equipped as a throwable in your loadout. Throw the proximity sensor in a high player density area to reveal all the enemies within the equipment's range.

- Using the Casper Specialist is another good way to spot in Battlefield 2042. Fly his OV-P Recon Drone where your team is fighting the opposing team. Simply looking at the enemies will mark them for your team for a while. Keep in mind that the range of the drone is long yet limited, and it can be destroyed.
- Finally, you can occupy the Commander Seat in a vehicle to mark enemies and guide the pilot and gunners. The Sensor Array equipment works similarly to Casper's recon drone and lets you ping opponents for a limited duration.
