Best MW3 Warzone audio settings for clear footsteps

Before getting to the best audio settings for Warzone, let me tell you that the game's overall audio is in an awful state right now. The ambient noise and audio for loot chests are loud while the most important cues such as footsteps are overly inconsistent and low. That said, here are the in-game audio settings you can use for best results.

Global

  • Audio Mix: Home Theater
  • Speakers/Headphones Game Sound Device: Default System Device
  • Speaker Output: Windows Default

Audio Mix is the most important audio setting in Warzone and determines how your game is going to sound. Even on headsets, I prefer the Home Theater preset as it has a wider EQ and distances the noises in the game amidst which it's easier to hear footsteps. You may try Headphones Bass Boost instead and see if it sounds better to you.

Volumes

  • Master Volume: 100 (personal preference, reduce if too loud)
    • Gameplay Music Volume: 0
    • Dialogue Volume: 30
    • Effects Volume: 100
    • Voice Chat Volume: 20
    • Cinematic Music Volume: 0
    • Wartracks Volume: 0

For the best gameplay experience, you don't want any music blasting in your ears while playing Warzone. Therefore, I highly suggest you turn off any music volume and wartracks, the latter of which refers to the music playing while driving a vehicle. Dialogue cues are good so don't disable that entirely and keep it at a low volume. The most important option is the effects volume that governs all the in-game audio from footsteps to ambient noise, so keep it maxed out.

Voice Chat

  • Voice Chat: On
  • Game Voice Channel: All Lobby
  • Last Words Voice Chat: On (if you like death comm)
  • Proximity Chat: Off
  • Voice Chat Output Device: Default System Device

Voice Chat is crucial in multiplayer to communicate with your teammates unless you're playing solo. Putting the voice channel to All Lobby allows you to talk to all squad members, even randoms. Otherwise, you can set it to Party Only to chat with the current party members. Enabling or disabling proximity chat is entirely up to you, but if you have it on and talk in-game, others will hear your comms.

Microphone

  • Microphone Mode: Push to Talk (Open Mic if you have a good mic and no background noise)
    • Push to Talk: Assign a button if you'll be using this feature
    • Open Mic Sensitivity: 70
  • Mute yourself when connecting to chat: Off
  • Microphone Input Device: Default System Device
  • Microphone Level: 100 (personal preference, reduce if teammates think you're too loud)
  • Test Microphone: Off

The next option in Warzone 3 audio settings is subtitles that you can turn off entirely to avoid distracting texts from appearing on your screen. Subtitles only really make sense in the Campaign.

Functionality

  • Mono Audio: Off
  • Reduce Tinnitus Sound: On
  • Wartracks as a passenger: Off
  • Juggernaut Music: Off
  • Hit Marker Sound Effects: Modern Warfare (personal preference)
  • Mute game when minimized: On
