CoD devs update MW3 Ranked Play restrict weapons to mixed fan reception

Good or bad? It's hard to say.

Call of Duty developers have restricted the weapon pool for MW3 Ranked Play once again, updating their list of no-no weapons from Season 3's release. Fans aren't sure whether the growth of this list is healthy or detrimental to the game; while a good majority are in favor of the update, a decent chunk of the community is finding it problematic.

The community reaction to the MW3 Ranked Play restrictions

Keeping balance and competitive fairness in Ranked is a paramount obligation of the Call of Duty devs. As the premier mode to test your mettle against the best and see where you stack up, it's required that no exploits, cheats, or unfair advantage are present. However, some overpowered weapons available to every player may just be the biggest issue in regards to fair and fun gameplay in Ranked.

This has led the devs to further restrict the weaponry on offer for all players, taking away the likes of the HRM-9, RAM-9, WSP-Swarm, Holger 556, MTZ 556, and the BP50. Some of them are fan-favorite weapons, but while some are happy to see the WSP-Swarm disappear, others don't agree that limiting choice is the right idea.

Reddit user Leananddopamine said, "Swarm is finally gone now those bots are going to get exposed in ranked." The comment racked up above 60 updoots from the community, agreeing with the removal of the ultra-lightweight SMG from Ranked.

One user thought the update was lackluster stating, "Wow absolute d*****t update." (from user MrRustles1). This prompted a response from user imafiremylazerBWAH, "Nothing d*****t about removing those broken a** guns from ranked", showcasing their agreement with the removal of the META weapons. A new challenger approached as Reddit user Phuzz15 was quick to comment, "Oh come on. They were in there for like a week. It's certainly worth them trial and erroring so ranked isn't limited to two meta weapons", thus bringing an excellent point to the table that the developers need room and time to experiment without the community at large dogging them down.

Reddit user Temojikato lamented, "This game is becoming so f****** boring. Just ban everything except for knives, why not?" Despite the profanity, they bring up another good point and make me wonder how long will it take until all weapons are restricted in some way and players only have minimal choices.

All in all, it's easy to see that the player base isn't exactly rallying around these changes. Most are happy certain problem guns are gone, but others are concerned that eventually there will be no choice whatsoever.
