In Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, players get various audio customization options to communicate with teammates and hear every footstep around the maps. Several players reported one of the common issues popping up in-game with a voice service unavailable error message. This can be fixed in a few easy steps, allowing players to communicate properly. Here's how to fix the voice service unavailable error in Modern Warfare 2.

How to fix voice chat not working in Modern Warfare 2?

To start fixing the voice service unavailable error in Modern Warfare 2, open up the Settings tab by clicking on the gear icon in the top right corner. Scroll down to the Audio tab, and navigate to the voice chat section. Here, you'll need to check a few things as listed below.

  • Check Voice Chat Device
    • Stays on default if unchanged
  • Check the Speakers/Headphone Device
    • Stays on default if unchanged
  • Check the Voice Chat Recording Mode
    • Stays on Push To Talk as default
  • Set the Game Voice Channel to All Lobbies
  • Check and select the proper Microphone Device
    • Stays on default if unchanged
  • Perform a Microphone Test to see how your input sounds in-game
  • Access the Open Mic Recording Threshold by changing Voice Chat Recording Mode to Open Mic
  • Make sure the Microphone Volume is between 80 to 100
  • Switch off the Mute Yourself While Connecting option

Some Microphones have certain input filters, which are ideal for checking if they are turned off. The solutions mentioned above fixed the problem for us, but they might not be for other players. If the issue persists, we recommend contacting Activision Support for further assistance.

How to change the Party Voice channel in Modern Warfare 2?

Players must also check if their Party chat game Channel has the proper settings activated. Click on the headphone icon in the top right corner to open the channel settings. Here you'll see the current game channel you are in. Players can also create their own Channel and add Friends to that one. You can also change the Channel Privacy to Open or Closed. Remember to check the Mute Self option on the bottom right corner to activate your voice input in Modern Warfare 2.
