Highway to the danger zone...

After launching into MWZ, you'll encounter areas called Threat Zones, a new type of content that impacts the difficulty of your experience. Here's everything you need to know about them.

What are Threat Zones in MW3 Zombies?

Threat Zones are areas within the MWZ open world that represent the difficulty of each area, dependent on the level of danger in said area. The level of danger in each area is represented with a Threat Zone marker so that you know what you're getting yourself into. They are also shown on your world map as color-coded circles.

There are three different types of Threat Zones you can participate in, each with its own set of hazards and rewards.

  • Low Threat - Areas of MWZ that are not very dangerous to move around in. Zombies here are few are far between and aren't very powerful. I recommend using them as fodder for mild experience grind or objectives. You can participate in these solo or with a group and have an easy time; they require very little coordination and can be enjoyed in any way you see fit. However, the loot that comes from these zones will be basic. Low Threat zones make up the majority of MWZ and can be distinguished by not having any color coding.
  • Medium Threat - These areas are your standard set in MWZ. They contain a challenge and require you to pay attention to your surroundings to survive. Zombies here are going to be more powerful, and group play is encouraged for consistent survival. Solo play is questionable due to the increase in power and volume of zombies present, but I'll be jumping in to see how viable it is. You can find moderately valuable loot in these zones. Medium Threat zones make up the outer middle of MWZ and are color-coded with orange.
  • High Threat - These areas are the most dangerous areas in MWZ. They contain the most deadly zombies in the game, and there are a lot of them. Group play is mandatory if you want to see any sort of progression here. I do not recommend solo play in any of the High Threat zones unless you're itching for a real (and most likely fatal) challenge. Regardless, you and your group will need to be highly geared and coordinated. The best loot in MWZ will come from these zones. High Threat zones make up the middle of MWZ and are color-coded with red.

As you can see, MWZ has something for everyone, whether or not you want to just relax and kill some zombies, or want to dive into the thick of things with a coordinated squad.
