What is Codename: Wandering Sword? Release date, gameplay, and more.

Pick up your sword and wander in this beautiful world.

Wandering Sword is a debut title for developer and publisher Xiameng Studio that looks to bring back Wuxia-style games. Its aesthetic reminded me heavily of Square Enix's Octopath Traveler series, and immediately caught my eye. It follows the story of a young man who gets caught up in a rivalry between two powerful lords. Here is everything we know about Wandering Sword.

Is Wandering Sword an RPG?

Wandering Sword is an open-world turn-based tactical RPG. You will control a variety of heroes who have powerful Jianghu abilities and martial arts moves. It features a world inspired by Chinese mythology and has many exciting areas and NPCs who you can meet and even befriend through a friendship system.

In Wandering Sword, battle takes place on a tactical grid. You can opt for turn-based combat or go all in through real-time battle. NPCs in the game use dynamic behavioral AI, and Wandering Sword features many sidequests as well as multiple endings to experience. Additionally, Wandering Sword features a beautiful 2.5D pixel art aesthetic made popular by Octopath Traveler. It blends a 3D environment and a stylish look to create something unique.
