Deep Rock Galactic Survivors Driller Build Guide

The right Dwarf for the job.

The Driller is the best support in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivors, with the strongest DOT weapons and the fastest mining speed. This build guide focuses on choosing the right loadout to cover for his weak points and increase his survivability.

No one can gather materials as quickly as the Driller, particularly in his Foreman Class Mod. For that reason, the best role for the Driller is as a support, farming for upgrades so that you can improve the stats of all your other classes.

Best Class Mod for the Driller in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivors

Ironically, I found the first Class Mod The Foreman to be the best of the three options. His increase in mining speed and his starting weapon Subata 120 end up being more effective than the loadouts of the other two alternatives. Although the Interrogator gets a buff to the DOT effects, and the Strong Armed gets a 20% increase in weapon range, these Class Mods will never compare to the Gunner in overall damage output.

Best Weapons for the Driller in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivors

Until you level up the weapons, the Damage Over Time of the Driller isn't fast enough to deal large swarms of enemies, which can challenge his early game. For that reason, choosing the right weapons to cover your back while you are mining is necessary.

  • His Subata 120 lacks speed and power; you should increase the fire rate and reload speed as soon as you can.
  • The Krakatoa Sentinel is your best early bet to delay enemies and allow you to squeeze every mineral from the rocks.
  • The Impact Axe unlocked at Rank 12, is great at dealing with small bugs.
  • The CRSPR Flamethrower can be upgraded to add more beams until you become a walking stove burner.
  • Later on, the Experimental Plasma Charger (unlocked at rank 27) becomes the best DPS weapon for the Driller since it shoots bullets that bounce on terrain.

Best Overclocks for the Driller in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivors

  • Gas Rerouting is the best overclock for the Subata 120 since it gives it the extra fire rate and reload speed needed.
  • More Beams and Even More Beams are the two best overclocks for the CRSPR Flamethrower, giving you a total of six fire beams (and this is without counting the extra beams you can add from upgrades).
  • More Axes increases the clip size 100% for the Impact Axe.

Since most of the Driller's weapons are DOT, upgrading Status Effect damage (Fire, Acid, and Electrical) should be one of your priorities. Increasing the Mining Speed will help you complete your goal faster, which is gathering as many materials as possible to spend on upgrades. Lastly, increasing Movement Speed is useful to cover the map quicker, and to break away from bosses to mine unbothered, be it only for a few seconds.

Best Artifacts for the Driller in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivors

  • Nitragenic Powder increases your critical chance by 0.5% for every Nitra you have. This is useful with the Driller since he will be carrying a lot of Gold and Nitra most of the time.
  • Popup Tripod increases your fire rate 2% and your reload speed 2% while standing still. It can also stack up to 10 times, and for a Class that spends so much time stationary (mining), this is an excellent artifact.
  • Barley Bulb Juice gives you a temporary movespeed buff when standing still (5% for 3 seconds, up to 5 stacks).

How to play the Driller in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivors

The Driller is there to collect. Move fast and focus on your mineral targets in front since your back will always be covered by your weapons. Dig narrow passages through the rock and use the turrets and flamethrowers to block the path and pave it with death behind you. Once you've mined the area, come back to collect the XP points your sludge and fire weapons left for you.
