All Deep Rock Galactic Classes, Explained

Deep Rock Galactic all characters!

Deep Rock Galactic is a first-person shooter in which players go on expeditions to deep mines infested with hostile alien bugs. The game features 1-4 player co-op; hence, it relies on teamwork and character-assigned roles. I've explained all character classes in Deep Rock Galactic and their abilities below.

All classes in Deep Rock Galactic

In this game, you play as dwarves with special weapons and gear designed to help you survive and mine minerals in deep enemy territories. There are four types of dwarves or character classes you can select from—Gunner, Scout, Driller, and Engineer. Each class has different types of gear but the Pickaxe and High-Intensity Flare are two basic equipment available to all.

Gunner class - Deep Rock Galactic

As the name implies, Gunner is a frontline soldier who carries heavy weaponry that can effortlessly mow down waves of enemies in the way. This includes a fast-firing Minigun, a high-damage Revolver, and Sticky Grenades. While the Gunner is great at attacking, he is also the best at providing support thanks to his Shield Generator and Zipline Launcher.

Below are all the gear you can choose from while playing Gunner.

Lead Storm Powered Minigun (default)This high fire rate weapon has a spin-up period before which you can't fire it; but once the shooting begins, you don't have to worry about reloading for a long time (i.e. until the minigun overheats).
Thunderhead Heavy AutocannonThe autocannon has a slow fire rate but its high-caliber rounds deal a lot of damage, including explosive damage on impact.
Hurricane Guided Rocket SystemEffective against hordes, use this weapon to fire a barrage of rockets and guide them manually using the laser designator.
Bulldog Heavy Revolver (default)Fires high-damage bullets but you have to reload after every four rounds.
BRT7 Burst Fire GunThink of it as a mini-SMG that fires in a three-round burst and is fairly powerful.
ArmsKore Coil GunCharge the shot by holding the shoot button and then release it to fire an extremely lethal shot.
Shield GeneratorThrow this support tool in hectic situations when you're getting overrun by the monsters. It creates a spherical holographic shield that gives 50 percent damage resistance and keeps hostiles away until active.
Zipline LauncherIf you find yourself stuck in a complex spot, use this gun to fire a zipline to the position you want to reach.
Sticky GrenadeThis grenade sticks to the surface you throw it at and explodes soon after. It's best against a cluster of enemies, especially the big monsters.

Scout class - Deep Rock Galactic

Think of Scout as the nimble dwarf who can reach tough spots to mine minerals and get out of complex situations easily, all thanks to his Grappling Hook. He also carries a Flare Gun that illuminates much better than the regular flares every character gets. It should be noted that his primary weapon, the Deepcore GK2, isn't as powerful and I found myself running out of ammo consistently while using it.

Here are all the gear and utilities available for Scout.

Deepcore GK2 (default)Even though this full-auto assault rifle is very powerful, it is effective because of the fast reload speed and high fire rate; just keep count of the ammo.
M1000 ClassicMade in remembrance of the M1 Garand, this is a dependable battle rifle with a single-fire mechanic; however, it enters an alternate fire mode when you hold the fire button. The bullets in this mode deal increased damage and have great accuracy but cost two rounds per shot.
DRAK-25 Plasma CarbineBased on an overheating mechanic similar to Gunner's Minigun, this weapon fires laser rounds at the target.
Jury-Rigged Boomstick (default)If you think Scout's primary isn't that powerful, you can swap to the double-barrel shotgun when in need of high firepower.
Zhukov NUK17A reliable set of dual machine pistols, or you can call them micro-SMGs.
Nishanka Boltshark X-80This crossbow can fire high-impact, retrievable bolts and you can even upgrade it to carry different bolt types.
Grappling HookUse this utility tool to fire a hook that can latch onto surfaces in range and pull you to it. You can keep holding the button to stay suspended and attached as long as you want.
Flare GunUse this to fire special flares that, unlike the standard ones, last longer, burn brighter, and can even stick to vertical surfaces.
Inhibitor-Field GeneratorCreates a sphere that slows down enemies caught inside. Use this opportunity to decimate them or recover if in a sticky situation.

Driller class - Deep Rock Galactic

Driller is a mining specialist who brings his Flamethrower into the battlefield. What makes him great at mining is the Power Drill that can be used to vigorously drill through any surface. His Satchel Charge utility always comes in handy when you want to lay a trap for the monsters and explode them into bits. Driller is good at mining and killing bugs, which is why he's my favorite class in Deep Rock Galactic.

Let's have a look at the equipment and weapons available to Driller.

CRSPR Flamethrower (default)Burn your enemies with this powerful weapon, but keep note of its poor range. It's the best weapon to use when you're surrounded by enemies and want to clear them out quickly.
Cryo CannonIf you get bored of burning the bugs, try freezing them with the Cryo Cannon. It's best used with Driller's Impact Axe; freeze the aliens first and then kill them using the axe.
Corrosive Sludge PumpHold the fire button and release it to fire a ball of toxic waste at the enemies. They take damage over time and are slowed down, allowing your teammates enough time to finish them.
Subata 120 (default)A simple yet reliable semi-automatic handgun.
Experimental Plasma ChargerEPC is also a semi-auto handgun, but it fires plasma bolts instead of bullets.
Colette Wave CookerThis weapon emits deadly microwave energy and works on the overheating mechanics so you don't have to reload as often.
Reinforced Power DrillsUse these powerful drilling machines to destroy rocks in your way, which proves useful during missions like Deep Scan. What you can do with the pickaxe in a minute, can be done in seconds using this tool.
Satchel ChargeA C4 charge that you can place on any surface and detonate when ready from a distance. You can rely on this to clear terrains and deal explosive damage to the monsters.
Impact AxeRetrievable throwing axes that are very effective against the bugs and can take out the small other in just one hit.

Engineer class - Deep Rock Galactic

If tactical play is your thing, you have to try the Engineer dwarf. By default, he carries a shotgun and a grenade launcher, both of which are very powerful weapons. If you want to defend an area from enemies or are facing an incoming wave, place down the sentry turret to do half the work for you. Engineer also carries the Platform Gun, a highly functional tool you can use to create your own terrain to reach complex spots.

Warthog Auto 210 (default)This semi-auto shotgun comes with six bullets in the chamber and is amongst the best weapons in the game for close-range encounters.
Stubby Voltaic SMGA compact SMG with good damage potential and fast reload speed. What makes this weapon special is its electric capability that makes the gun so that shots fired have a small chance of electrocuting the target.
LOK-1 Smart RifleA standard single-fire weapon but when you hold down the fire button, it enters a special mode in which you can lock onto targets even at range and fire powerful charged projectiles.
Deepcore 40mm PGL (default)Fire devastating grenades at hordes and large monsters to take them out effortlessly.
Breach CutterThis weapon fires plasma blades that travel as horizontal lines and deal damage over time. The plasma can pass not just through enemies but even surfaces to some extent.
Shard DiffractorSend out powerful, infinite-range beams of energy capable of dealing significant damage to even the biggest of alien monsters.
Platform GunUse it to create a small platform made of a special substance that can last forever, unless you dig it or expose it to fire. Build stairs using this and reach spots that you couldn't otherwise.
LMG Gun PlatformA great support tool that you can place anywhere on the surface and it'll help you battle against waves of bugs. It has a limited range and you will have to refill it with ammo when it goes empty.
LUREThrow this holograph decoy of a dwarf that draws in nearby enemies for a while and takes their attention off you.
