How to fix Error Code Spinach in Destiny 2

Long gone are the days when games simply worked out of the box and didn't require an internet connection. Nowadays, games like Destiny 2 are always online and, as such, prone to all sorts of errors.

Now, this isn't always Bungie's fault (the Internet and networking in general are incredibly complicated things). Error Code Spinach is one such problem that falls on the user's end. Here's what it is and how to fix it.

What is Error Code Spinach in Destiny 2

Error Code Spinach has been determined to be the result of router settings interfering with or blocking data to or from the Destiny servers. While there may be numerous routers that could be affected, Bungie has identified Technicolor and Thomson routers as particularly troublesome.

How to adjust router settings on a Technicolor/Thomson

• Log into your router via a browser or app, if supported.
• Go to your Firewall settings.
  • Home > Toolbox > Firewall.
  • Create a new Firewall level and give it a memorable name like "Destiny 2."
• Go to Game & Application Sharing.
  • Home > Toolbox > Game & Application Sharing.
  • Enable UPnP.
  • Disable "Extended Security."
  • Disable any "Assigned Games & Applications" settings.

General network troubleshooting

• Double-check that Destiny 2 services aren't impacted by checking @BungieHelp on Twitter or the Bungie Help Forum.
• Determine if other devices (tablets, phones, computers, consoles) can connect to the Internet.
• Power cycle your console/PC and networking equipment by unplugging the power for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.
• If able, try connecting with a wired connection instead of wireless.
