For those players that might be returning to Destiny 2 after several Seasons or even years away, you might be surprised to see some new faces around the Tower. Cabal, Eliksni, and Awoken now freely roam the once Human and Exo-only space. How did this come to pass and should we trust these forces we spent so long fighting against?
How did Cabal get into the Tower?
The "how" comes down to how Destiny 2's story has been told throughout the Seasons. During the first Season of The Witch Queen, Season of the Risen, the Cabal began a tenuous alliance with the Vanguard. This led to Empress Caiatl solidifying that relationship and becoming a full-fledged ally with not only the Vanguard, but the House of Light Eliksni that had joined a few Seasons prior.
Over the past few years, Bungie has been shaping the story in a way that it's not about the various species facing off against one another. Rather, it comes down to the forces of Light against the forces of Darkness. The Light comprises Humans, Exo, Awoken, Eliksni, and Cabal. The Darkness has the Hive, Fallen, and Calus' Shadow Legion of cloned Cabal. Where does that leave the Vex? Smack in neutral territory. They don't pick a side and will fight anyone to advance their enigmatic goals. So, knowing that they're now our friends, make sure to say "hi" the next time you're in the Tower!
