What does Crowd Control mean in Diablo 4?

Crowd controlling in Diablo 4 is something that will have an effect on the mobs of enemies around you whether that's slowing or stunning them. Anything that affects the way they move toward you is crowd controlled. On the other end of the spectrum, being frozen by an ability from an enemy is an example of them crowd controlling you.

Learning how to do this type of thing at the right time will almost certainly be the difference between life and death at some point in the game. There are a variety of different ways to make that happen.

All Crowd Control effects in Diablo 4

There are a lot of different crowd controlling effects in Diablo 4, and they don't all work the same. First, let's go through the list of them.

  • Taunt
  • Slow
  • Stun
  • Knockback
  • Knockdown
  • Fear
  • Tether
  • Daze
  • Chill
  • Freeze
  • Immobilize

The majority of these abilities will send enemies scattering away from you, slow them down, or outright keep them rooted in place. The notable exception from this list is the taunt, an ability that will actually make the enemies come after you specifically. This will be useful in a group setting when your caster friends are taking heavy damage and you want to redirect that threat towards you so they can survive. A Barbarian running a Thorns build would be an example of somebody who wants all the threat on them.

There are pieces of gear that say they do more damage to crowd controlled enemies, and this is what those items are referring to. Elites and bosses are typically immune to crowd control abilities, so keep that in mind when you're going up against a tough foe.
