You can tell that you've fed a critter their favorite food because they'll put on a display of happiness before eating. For creatures that fly, you'll see them do a loop in the air or flutter in the air slightly before they settle down to eat. When they're finished, you'll see multiple hearts appear.

Walk up to an Owl and interact with them to feed them. Owls are the easiest to feed because they don't run away when you get close, similar to the Squirrels in the Plaza. When fed their favorite food, owls will fly in a loop before landing on a perch to eat.

  • Barley - Grown from seeds you can buy from Goofy's stall in The Bind. Goofy occasionally has Barley available in its grown form, which can save you some time.

Walk up to a Baby Dragon and wait for them to stop being scared so you can feed them. Baby Dragons act like the Turtles on Dazzle Beach; they'll hide away for a few seconds when you approach them. Just be patient and they'll eventually put their wings back down. A Baby Dragon will fly up and twirl when given the correct food.

  • Magma - Mined from rocks in The Elysium Fields, The Fiery Plains, The Statue's Shadow, and Mount Olympus.
  • Pure Ice - Mined from rocks in The Wild Woods, Teapot Falls, The Fallen Fortress, and The Beanstalk Marshes.

To feed a Pegasus, you must play tag with them three times. Like the Rabbits in the Peaceful Meadow, you'll need to chase after these playful critters before you can interact with them. When a Pegasus is given its favorite food, it will flutter its wings and fly up from the ground very slightly before coming back down to eat.

  • Any four-star or five-star Vegetarian meal (Vegetarian Pizza, Vegetarian Taco, Veggie Casserole, etc.).
  • Bouillabaisse (2x Any Seafood, 1x Shrimp, 1x Tomato, 1x Any Vegetable).

Each critter will require that you feed them the food they enjoy the most. But how many times you need to do this is the real question. Once you feed a critter once a day for the number of days they require, you'll unlock them, and they can become a companion.

Pull up your wardrobe and click on companions to make a critter your companion after you've unlocked them. You can choose a critter to equip from all the ones you've unlocked in any part of Disney Dreamlight Valley - whether from the base game or one of the DLCs. Your companion will follow you around as you play, though they cannot go beyond the ground floor of your house.
