Dragon Age: The Veilguard is going to be in much better shape features-wise for PC players than its predecessor, according to a new Bioware blog. Anyone who played Dragon Age: Inquisition on the platform will recall its wonky controls and camera, but the longtime developer is putting in the work this go-round.
To start, Bioware says it's put in 10,000 hours of user research testing just to make sure the controls and UI feel good on both keyboard and mouse as well as controllers (which lines up nicely with its Steam Deck verified status). What does this mean? Native support for PS5 DualSense controllers with haptics support, Xbox controller support, and of course keyboard and mouse support. Even more, you can swap between keyboard/mouse and controller mid-gameplay or in menus, and can change up your class-specifc keybinds as you see fit and switch between them at your leisure.
If 10,000 hours doesn't impress you, the studio says it's logged an additional staggering 200,000 hours testing the performance and compatibility of the PC version (I think I'm starting to see why many studios skimp out on PC versions).
Apart from a full suit of graphics options (including Raytracing, DLSS 3, a heavily modified FSR 2.2, XeSS, frame generation, and NVIDIA Reflex) which reflect in real-time as you change them, you can expect Ultra Wide and HDR support and uncapped frame rate. And there's even more to come.
In short, it sounds like all you could ask for out of a PC version; the only thing left to do is actually get your hands on it to know for sure.
There's also the matter of how enjoyable it will be for fans of previous games (which you should catch up on, by the way); given each has differed fairly wildly from each other, it'll be interesting to see where it lands on the spectrum. So far, I get more Inquisition vibes than anything, but it kind of seems like a mix of all three. Whatever the case, it should be a blast for all but the most diehard CRPG fans.
