Once you’ve made your way through the Greatwood Maze in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, you’ll be faced with the Ancient Seed, a large tree boss monster that can be tricky to take down. There is no Gimmick in play here and there are no adds but you can soon get in trouble as your whole party seems to take consistent damage. Here’s how to get through.

It's not obvious at first but while it looks as if the Ancient Seed has only one attack, it can actually attack every member of your party in the same round individually. This is because it gets a free counterattack on all your heroes that attack it.

The best way to defeat the Ancient Seed is to build up your special attacks, whether it be Rune-Lens or Hero Combos, and put up any Shields, Dodge Buffs, etc. that can help you. Casters can also hit the Ancient Seed with attacking spells but just be careful they can take the hits. In this way, you can minimize the damage ratio between you and it by doing large single strikes. Heroes with Charge work well here, such as Galdorf and Yusuke.

While this method worked pretty well for me, you need to remember that the Ancient Seed still gets a standard attack that could hit any of your heroes, even if you don’t attack it at all. To avoid this random damage you can try to use a hero with a Taunt ability. Alternatively, using a couple of healers to keep casting Healing Drops should keep your team upright (it will put the caster to the front of the turn order).

Once The Ancient Seed’s name turns red it is close to death but your strategy should remain unchanged. A few more rounds and the Ancient Seed will be defeated.
